Andy Stone What really annoys me at gigs is when you stand near to people who use there phones to record the whole concert.
And they hold the bloody thing up in your eyeline! At a recent Fairport Convention concert the stewards were quite active stopping this, I approve!

Corvin reminds me a bit of Jack Elam a nice, happy fella! One solution to not leaving the confines of your coccoon for a lame "post modern" party . . . is to gig every fri-sat night for a decade. You miss all kinds of parties that way, yet you can still bemoan civilization's precipitous slide . . .'cause it's right there in front of you. Plus you get paid to watch it. For the Cakewalk Marketing Team, an idea: clearly there is a niche available for another differentiation of Sonar. We have Platinum, Professional and Artist, with builds like "Cambridge" . . . Next up: Sonar Curmudgeon. Build ="Vegas" :) I'd subscribe. cheers, -Tom

jamesg1213 I'm sure you do Dafydd.
I'm definately beginning to like the sense of humor in the coffee house. Once I get over being the new kid and loose my inhibitions, I'll surely start to join in.
Stick around Andy, plenty of hidden treasure here.

Indeed. I could understand that people felt the need to record bootlegs back in the days. I remember listening to a few Metallica bootlegs from the Master of Puppets tour back then, and they were a most precious thing to us. But in 2016, when high quality footage is abundant and artists regularly release DVD's, those phone recordings are obsolete before you are even done recording them. People just dump it on YouTube - I doubt they could be bothered to sit and watch the stuff they film - they couldn't be bothered watching the actual thing. Once Cirque allowed people to record the show my wife was in, they were faced with this strange situation where the public seemed to be giving them a standing ovation, but so many of them were filming that they couldn't be bother to actually applaud the performers. Bad manners...

I doubt baby boomers do this, except maybe soccer moms. It's the generation-who-shall-remain-nameless-lest-they-show-up. You know, the ones who think music is free?

There are some days where I'd agree with you. Those days I feel that music is the most asinine invention man has ever construed. I truly feel music is just stupid. Then other days I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I wish there was a happy medium.

Actually, the ladies in question were in their 40's. Las Vegas may be a particular case - there is a whole lot of single ladies in their 30's, 40's and even 50's whose entire existence revolves around club life. It is sad, but it's also one of the reasons why local bands can play regularly. I can't speak for the rest of the world, but judging from my own entourage, people my age are just as bad as the younger people. Me... I forget my phone 50% of the time when I go out, and I don't carry it with me around the house either. I grew up in a world where there was one phone for a whole family, no answering machine. If you went outside or didn't pick up the phone, people called back, and I must say that I don't see many advantages to incite me to adopt the new philosophy of being on a leash 24/7.

I played in a blind draw dart event a couple of months ago and was matched with a well known single mom of three. Although she proclaims to love playing and blind draws are usually more social than other tournaments, she was glued to various Feckbook pages on her phone almost the entire time. Gee, that was a fun night. Ironically, she's always posting about how she'd like to not be single any more yet I've already heard that she demonstrates similar behavior even while on a date! Some people just don't get it I guess.

Are you American Craig? I always thought it was only the Brits that played darts!

Millions play around the world, but the top players (with only a few exceptions) are either from Britain or the Netherlands (where the current World #1 is from). I've now played for over 37 years. I'm an American, but my Mom is 100% Dutch and my father is mostly of British ancestry with some Dutch and some other stuff I can't remember. I figure this is why I was such a good speed skater when I was young and why I've been ranked in the US Top 25 twice in darts (18 years apart!). LOL. I've actually beaten the person ranked World #1 in both activities (at the time they were ranked that), but only for one event each... That said, past dart World Champions used to stay at my house when they were out this way for exhibitions and I've beaten three guys who have been a World Champ (including the one I alluded to above). Heck, I was even on ESPN twice back in the 80's! Unfortunately, until I find better income (and a new place to live), my darts are average at best. I lost everything during the so-called "Credit Crunch" in 2008-9 and part of my brain is telling me that darts aren't that important right now. Hopefully that will turn around soon and I can get my top performances back.
