Wow, very cool song and feel! Love the subtle vibrato in the voice and the synth-comme-brass lines starting in the second verse. Very musical. Thanks a lot - that was a real pleasure! :) LJ

Hey ol pal, Is that you on the vocals? I like them The only thing I would do is put a bass in there, but if there is already, then I would turn it up. Keep them coming ol pal. If you don't keep producing, what else are you going to do? Jesse Q. Screed

I like the finger snapping jazzy sound of this song and I was intrigued enough to listen to it a couple of more times.
I think the fingersnapping could take a rest somewhere in the middle, then bring it back in later. The transition into the brass at about 1:20 is well done and the overall production is very good. At first I thought whatever you did to the vocal track was a bit over the top (esp since I've listened to a couple of your other songs), but it works after a few measures of listening time.
Just one man's opinion.

Ohhhhh snap! :-) I'm still not happy with the chorus...I've already replaced the track on SC once...but it's gettin there. Thanks for your kind words and critique. And @Jesse...yup that is my falsetto. I wore extremely tight under shreddies that day.

Cool one 'Olpal, very Fagen-esque. Seems a little more sparse than your usual productions, are you planning on adding more to it? I also found the fingersnaps a bit distracting after a while.

I've finally had a chance to remix and fix some things that were bothering me with this bit of noodlin. And I listened and heeded several of the suggestions made above. Now I'm happy with the chorus and have the vocal a bit softer and sitting better "in" the mix as well as a new acoustic bass which cuts through better and overall a cleaner more defined sound. Now...about those dern snaps. To me, they are the key to the whole track and need to be incessant and relentless, and here's why: They represent what this song is really all about...creepy insistance on the part of our ersatz protagonist. He's fairly single minded and isn't about to give up...and neither do those snaps. Sorry:-)

I guess I need to correct a misconception. I...with the exception of a brief period in the early 80s...have made zero dollars writing, producing and mixing my own original vanity tracks. Although I would surely welcome all possible income that might be garnered from them.
I do make (very little) money from producing voiceover and complete spots for radio and TV. And the infrequent custom music for broadcast or corporate use.
I wish to gawd that I could make money with my dim witted noodlins...and perhaps one day I shall. Although I wouldn't bet on it. Not on your tintype.
But thanks for the kind words. I sincerely appreciate them, ol pal.
And I shall groove on:-)

Very nice sparse airiness to this mix Olpal, come across very well here. I think caught the first mix then got called away by the senior management without a chance to say something. Thanks for sharing.

Well fer gawd sakes put up a website, stick a 99 cent price tag on your songs, and I'd buy me some. There are still older people who appreciate good music and like to have legit copies of it. On this song, which is your usual friggin sweet mix, I never got "snaps" - I thought it was a guy banging two woodblocks. You could eq some high end out of that, it might sound more human finger-y. Or, have a group of people actually snapping. Record yourself actually snapping, multiply by 12 or 8 or whatever. I think it would give you the insistence you need, but is would be cooler sounding. Months later, when you are done editing 72,000 snap hits, they can cart you off. :) Anyway, keep 'em comin' old pal. -Tom

You may not get paid for your noodlins, but they sure sound that way. Another really fine production; clean, airy, sparse yet full. It's a simple arrangement but you've really nailed it.
