Time

Hi there, had pieces of this hanging around for awhile and finally stitched it together.
(deleted original) https://soundcloud.com/hu...irdcinema/time-demo-v1

Appreciate any feedback!

<edit>
Here is the updated track based upon early feedback:
(deleted) https://soundcloud.com/hu...irdcinema/time-demo-v2
Thanks for the input!
<2nd edit>
Re-wrote the bridge and further muted some samples Dan alluded to.  Also a few other changes -- and changed from the working title 'Time' to 'No Fear'

<3rd edit>
Backed off the vocals as suggested and changed the reverb as well.
Thanks again for the input and feedback.

This song is meant to be a peaceful lift ride up the slopes on a perfect ski day, followed by the rush of joy as the downhill run begins...

    Hey Cwestmont.

    Heard through your song a few times and I think it's really good. Alot going on, still well blended together. So good work.

    Tons of people on this forum has really high skills on mixing and mastering.

    I'm not one of those... Still I'll give you my 2 cents. :-)

    Too me the vox in places of the first halv seem a bit low or little defined. Round from 1.40 and up to 2 mins) Blend in to all the sounds a bit too much. From around 2.26 there is a change of character in the song, and I think the vox comes out better in that part.

    Also I think the base at times might be a little to low/ too little defenition.

    This all might be my crappy headphones... It might be how you intended the song to be. Still thats my first impression anyway.

    Bottom line is that I really like the song. Good work and thumbs up from me.

    Mix sounds quite close here, the vocal is a little back in the mix in the opening section.  Regarding the Bass I wonder if it is masking the kick drum, perhaps some surgical EQ to both so they have some space around them.  Bring the slap of the kick out and cut the Bass around the thump of the kick.

    Good start though will keep the furry lugs open for the remix.

    I agree with Wookie, this mix is not far off. The bass definitely needs some treatment. I'd also caution you that overusing those vocal loops/samples so that they become too recognizable makes them sound obviously like loops/samples. A little goes a long way...

    I like the instrumentation in this, particularly your mix of guitar, piano and organ. I think this could be quite a good tune with a bit more polish.

    Dan and Wookiee, thanks for the comments and listening in the first place.  I've tried to adjust the bass and vocals as you and Anders suggested.  Dan, I've also muted some of the vocal loops.  I was kind of going for that hip-hop approach where it is obvious that they are using loops, but I also sometimes find it a little annoying so am following your perspective on this.  Hope this fits the feedback:

    Just had a listen to the second version...  nice song!   It's a good mix of different elements blended well together.   I did like the hip-hop-ish beat with a sort of dreamy top end during the first half, the switch to something more rock after that, and then a layering of the two.

    Very good, a bit dreamy stuff. I listened to the final mix and it sounded great.

    Really evocative mood in this one.

    The vocals IMHO need to be moved waaay back, cut a lot of bottom eq out and washed in some reverb to fit the track better. Some tuning on the long held vocal notes would help some too.

    Did not care for the dramatic change at 2:25...I think it undercut the mood. The drums should be huge, and this kinda only went half way there.

     I could do a polish on this in an hour that would really make it shine.

    Hah, funny, I guess I over-corrected the initial version where the vocals were too far back.  I am still learning the vocal side of things after years of doing instrumentals or remixes so appreciate the feedback.  I'll take another stab at it and maybe sit on it awhile before reposting.  Thanks James.

    lovely.....I think I'd used a different verb on the vox in the verses....not sure what treatment your using...if your doubling the vox I might try to spread it a bit...but for some reason its not working for me..

    the rest of the tune is outstanding....
