Controlling filter cutoff in Z3ta3 with Oxygen 61
If anyone could explain how I can map either C9 (the right-hand slider control) or C12 (the 3rd rotary knob) on my Oxygen 61 to the cutoff filter frequency in Zeta3, I'd owe you big. I have a computer science degree and have been using Sonar for years, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to do this.

If it helps anyone, I came up with these (surely confusing and vague) steps: Sonar: UTILITIES (top menu) ==> Control surfaces. The ACT Midi controller dialog box opens Note: on bottom of this dialog box, "Active Controller Technology" already has a checkbox for enabling Z3ta+2. I don't know how it knew this; maybe I had that track highlighted. I had a true pianos track in my projects as well. Don't bother with a preset. Click the ACT button in the ACT Midi Controller box (upper right) Click on the CUTOFF FILTER slider on the Z3ta synth box Use the controller on the keyboard (the Oxygen 61) you want to use to control the cutoff filter Unclick ACT in ACT MIDI CONTROLLER box The two should now be associated. There's no need to use "midi learn" or the "options" tab.

For direct MIDI control CC9 is good but CC12 is dangerous. Check CC numbers from https://www.midi.org/specifications/item/table-3-control-change-messages-data-bytes-2If you want to use some controls for something outside MIDI spec, it is better to reprogram your controller for "Undefined" CCs. The logic is simple: let say your knob generates CC7, even in case you MIDI map it to Cutoff, there is a big chance it will still control MIDI volume. The result is going to be confusing. Right click cutoff, select "MIDI Learn", turn the knob/move the slider. You should get immediate result. But it will not work in case you already use that control in "ACT MIDI" (as suggested in the previous post). ACT way is a bit more tricky, but can work with any synth. Significant different is in recording: MIDI map is recorded just as keys, with ACT you record track automations. If you go ACT way and find it does not work as expected/documents, or stop working at some point (it will...), read/use: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,297.0.html I have a computer science degree and have been using Sonar for years, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to do this.
If you want to read more about ACT and how all that works, read the rest of my site (you can start with "ACT MIDI explained"). Your degree can help to understand it

I've been trying to get a knob on my Akai Midi Controller to control the Filter Cutoff of a third party synth for two days now with no luck (Sonar X3, Win 7 64 Bit). I've read the ACT portion of the manual, tried everything I can think of but no luck. The convoluted, unintuitive method of simply assigning a knob to a parameter is one of the reasons why I rarely use Sonar. Is there any step by step simple set of instructions somewhere ? I am by all means not new to computer music but am frustrated by this process. Thanks for the information. I see that somehow the site was marked such way recently, I will check downloads tomorrow with the antivirus I trust. Everything can happened in the Internet... But reading the Internet and Bitdefender forum... The best way to solve the problem is delete the program from computer (I mean Bitdefender). Even with the official way to remove the site from the blacklist, they do not give any explanation why the site was blocked at first place. That is not serious. I know that some sites on (commercial) website provider service I use are periodically hacked. I guess the ip address is blacklisted. But you can try to ask Bitdefender about your Akai. May be they are ready to help you, absolutely free and with patience ;)

azslow3The best way to solve the problem is delete the program from computer (I mean Bitdefender). Ha ha that's hilarious. The best way to avoid problems is to avoid wonky websites run by wankers.........
In old good USSR time, "literature experts" was normally writing about all "foreign authors": "- I have never seen his book and obviously I do not know the author, but that book is garbage!"
azslow3But you can try to ask Bitdefender about your Akai. May be they are ready to help you, absolutely free and with patience ;) Also very funny. I don't need your help so you can just slither off now. The total time it took to accomplish the task in the three other DAWs I own was less than a minute altogether. I'll just keep using them ;)
Reading arguments, I agree with your conclusion.

Hey Alexey - just FYI. The OP was speaking about physical controls on his controller (ie, labeled C9 and C12), not CC Midi controls.

Good point, thanks. I was looking at low resolution pictures of Oxygen and I have not notices sliders and knob are labeled as "Cn". I have not used my keystation pro for long time... About BitDefender: I have submitted false positive request yesterday and I see my site is no longer black listed now. Lets see either they write me any explanation and/or apologies.
