Delete audio without deleting automation envelopes?

Is it possible to delete the audio in an audio track without deleting any of the automation envelopes' data (volume, pan, etc.)? I know I've done this accidentally before, but I'm not sure of the exact process. My workaround for the time being is to select the automation data, ensuring that I've included all of the nodes, copy it, delete the audio data, and then paste. It would be much simpler if I could just choose not to delete the envelopes at all though. Any ideas?

Hi. I think it should be possible to use cut special, and only select audio.
All the best

Oh! I didn't think of that. Okay, so right click on the audio clip, right-click, and choose cut special. That should give me the choice of leaving the automation, hopefully. I'll try that out tonight. I swear I've deleted audio before and left the automation. I wonder what I did...

The other alternative is to expand the track into automation lanes. Then you can select the audio without the envelopes using the Select Tool. (Make sure to Ctrl-click to deselect automation lanes if they happen to get selected.)

Yeah, that's what I was trying to do. I'd expand the tracks so that their automation lanes would show up, but selecting the audio track was still deleting all of the automation data. I didn't trying Ctrl+clicking though. Thanks for the tip! I'll try that too.

Or, select the entire track and go Edit > Delete Special.
