Midi to synth playback drops out

I'm trying to send midi signal thru a synth (any synth) but the signal drops out. I can bounce the signal to a track and get audio, but this makes edits of the midi or synth tracks extremely time consuming.

Is there a setting I can increase to avoid this issue?

Hi. Have you tried to change the "prepare using ...ms buffers" in Preferences (P), MIDI, Playback and Recording? I have mine set to 500, and have for years. But you will have to try different settings on your system, as it does not seem to be a one size fits all.
    All the best.
