That looks interesting and I've seen it posted a few times but I just don't see it having long term support. Gimmick hardware like this seems to come out then the company stops supporting it after a couple years.

Not currently. We'll see what happens.

I've been using the Console 1, with Sonar x64, for a couple of years now.  It's a great addition to workflow.  The Softube plug ins sound great, very musical.  The console emulation is very well done and there is plenty of information available, on the Console 1,  for you to mix with your ears instead of your eyes and your ears.
 
Softube is a great plug in company. For me, the Console 1 give you the tactile feel of using a mixing console without loosing too much real-estate.
