Yep, from Vantucky to Vantucky (about four miles).  What a waste of time, effort and money!  A one day move turned into four (after two "prep" days where I worked 18 hours each).  The four days were 78.5 hours of work!  Lots of bins and boxes filled with books, some up to 150 pounds each.  I really can't believe how well my body came out of this!  No back pain or knee issues this time.  Maybe I'll use this as a jumping board to get back into the gym - we'll see!

Naturally, I went directly from THAT hell (of which two days were about 100 degrees F) to two days out of town doing a side-job.  Tonight I'm hitting the hay early and getting some catch-up sleep.

Happy birthday to the (apparent) multitudes of people that had birthdays while I was gone and happy un-birthday to everyone who didn't!

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

    Hi,

Grrrrrrr ... I'm not a fan of moving! The records and books alone take the fun out of it! And organizing them again later!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Got 12 wonderful hours of sleep.  Still woke up sore and stiff, but another full day of unpacking and putting things where they're supposed to go should keep things moving...  Bleh.

The worst part is that I already know I won't be here that long (there's NOTHING to do here!).  Once I can re-establish anything resembling an income I'll probably move out to a better place (and the GAS will return - lol!).

I hope you at least have big windows with a southern exposure.  That'd be the only redeeming value of living anywhere in the PACNW.

Unless you happen to NOT like heat (like me).  I'm always several degrees warmer than everyone else so I would avoid large southern exposure windows like the plague (except to enjoy the view if it was cool enough!).

I don't play sports any more so I want to live somewhere that's gorgeous (it is up here), cooler (it's supposed to be) and more relaxed (DEFINITELY a slower pace than southern California was!).  I like weather which is always changing up here and there are even seasons (I'm only used to Summer, Earthquake, Fire and Flood).  I'd even rather see rain than sunshine that's too hot.  The usual blue skies, white, puffy clouds with occasional showers is perfect as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not into the weirdness, hippy-ness or artsy-fartsy-ness that is Portland.  Plus I can't stand traffic!  Once I can set up some type of internet-based business, I'll be able to move to one of the many quiet areas up here that have lots of space, great views and "normal" people worth being around.

don't fixate on the sheep! that's an unhealthy australian trait which has been bred out of the NZ psyche (if you really really LOVE sheep, move to Australia)

OZ has always been a fascination for me.  It's an an entire nation of rather normal white people that nobody no's about.  Very mysterious.  Canada is kind of the same way.  Both nations are these huge democracies that just go about their business and never make the news cycle here (let alone new zealand)  On any given day we'll hear about most other parts of the world,  Even the hobbits on Flores!

If I were to escape the US, I'd probably not have to change the city I live in (Vancouver WA to Vancouver BC).

"It's an an entire nation of rather normal white people that nobody no's about."

well eph, talk about gross generalisations, considering we have an indigenous population, which after a few searches I cant seem to pull up the stats on-maybe they are as invisible to the net as to the rest of the world as when the Europeans declared Terra Nullus-no-one home.
in our small rural town we have a large African refugee community-mostly Dinka-extremely tall and just so elegant in their dress and manner they are like flowers in a desert.
as a now recognised part of asia it is not uncommon to go to lunchtime in downtown Melbourne and play "spot the white aussie"-seriously-
as for no-one knowing about us-google Australia and Sport, come to think of it google Australia and anything, politics and you will see we have always historically punched way above our weight limit.
I worked in N.J.and travelled extensively throughout most of your beautiful country in the early 90`s and the one thing that stuck in my mind was that most Americans seemed to believe that being the biggest and the best means there`s nothing else to see and the percentage of Americans with passports is one of the lowest ,per capita ,of any developed nation.
speaking of travelling, which aussies are particularly noted for-I spent a lot of time in Africa and Asia and one of the greatest thrills is finding yourself the only white person in a crowd-especially without your mother tongue.
nothing personal eph-but get out and see the world while it`s still available.
    cheers

Wow, I am blown away at my productivity level over the last two weeks!  About an hour ago (90 minutes if you use the forum clock) I completely finished moving in (well, except for a bunch of things that need to go back to storage like empty bins and boxes).  After 20 months at my last place I still hadn't really moved in.  Noice!

    Now, to get income...
