sackbut
Does anyone know where I can get a good collection of renaissance instrument samples or more specifically a sackbut? BTW. I'm not trying to be esoteric these have a very unique sound. Maybe a cross between the sound of a bagpipe and the bleat of a goat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sackbut I found that there is a collection called *era II* that's older and runs on the Best service 2.0 engine (not kontakt). Sounds kind of iffy. Does anyone have any experience with this particular collection? I've bought some of these older loops and they can be a little goofy.

Check out Bolder Sounds Early Instruments Collection. I don't think there is a Sackbut but there is a wealth of other period instruments.

I have Era II, and its great (and its not that old -- just released last April). Samples are very nice, and the programming is good. Some of the instruments can be tricky to play, but I find the library really useful. Best Service's Engine 2 is fine. I've had no issues with it.
Sonar Platinum, Windows 10 Pro 64, Core i7-5820K Haswell-E CPU, 32GB DDR4 RAM, RME Babyface, Adam F7 monitors, Mackie MCU

Oh thank you for the favorable brief, amicable. I shouldn't have pre-judged the best service collection. Era 2 may be a must buy for me.

The word "Sackbut" did make me snicker. For a moment I was in 8th grade again. but I decided to not pick the low hanging fruit. (wow, is that ever the wrong metaphor for this fred!)
