Judas Priest cover

This is a live mock up of Judas Priest's, The Hellion - Electric Eye. My friend Jim Miller (7th) sang the vocals and I played the guitars and bass as well as the production. I think I'm really getting the hang of this production thing. The interesting thing about this is during the production, I read Goerge Orwell's, Nineteen-Eighty-Four, which this song is about. Finally, the lyrics make sense though I didn't find out the song was about the book until I tried to find out how to make the vocals sound like the record. Obviously, I couldn't figure out how they did it. The interesting thing for me was I had heard people say that Orwell's writing was "prophetic", which I would argue against. I think it's more a "Star Trek effect", where the technology was imagined before it came to fruition though Orwell had no way to conceive of the amount of surveillance we live in today.

Camments are welcome and enjoy!

Enjoyed hearing this one, I'm no mix master, I've got tons to learn myself, but this sounds really great to my ears.
Great playing all the way around on this one!!!!

    Robert,

Great job.    I don't know the live version but in the studio version they use some harmonizer on the lead vocals.   It added some weird robotic harmonies underneath Halford's LV part.   It comes in after the section, "Up there in space.... ....everything you do."

Would like to hear some more of the kick/snare drums and bass coming forward.    I think the drummer had some double kick going in this song.  Really helped drive it.  Guitars sound great.  Vocals are really good....   Awesome job.

    Regards

Not one for JP so I have no knowledge of the original but this does have a live feel. As noted above could do with a little more bottom end weight in the kit, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for checking it out everyone!

I've been listening to music on my monitors for quite a while now and it seems that the bass and kick run the gammit of more, or less, than where I have them. I guess it depends on what you listen to and by whom. the interesting thing is, I tried just a bit more of the bass and kick but it threw the mix off, to my ears anyway.

    Thanks again!

Found myself smiling through this one.... it does sound like a live JP concert.   I don't really know the original version well but this sure sounds pretty @#%$ good to me!   The guitars were big yet have good clarity, and the vocals peek through enough to always be heard.  Even in a live setting with the audience screaming.

    Hey, Robert,

Great to hear you and Jim again with another spectacular JP cover!

Excellent work on the guitars, instrumentation and mix, and Jim did a super job on the vox, the guitar tones are a great match to the original.

I think I mentioned when commenting on your last Priest cover, that back in '82 through '84 my band opened with this and then straight into "Another Thing Coming" most nights, so it brings back a ton of great memories!

    Really nice work, guys!

Just to fuel the fire a little bit, because I think this was an AWESOME performance and production.......

: "You need a better song to work with, this one just isn't cutting it as much as it could be, You should do something perhaps like Judas Priest song called - 'You've Got Another Thing Coming'".........

And by all means, add the live feel. Because you've got that raw sounding/audience/live stuff working great in the mix.

Although, it would be nice to have a few things addressing the audience where the singer is talking to them at times.

    Great Stuff Guitarpima!!
