Functions Falling out of X1 - No Response

I understand X1 is not the current release.  There are reasons why I am delaying an upgrade.

That said, I don't understand why functions just stop working.  Here is a partial list of problems that have shown up one by one over the past few months:
  • Cut, Copy, and Paste won't quantize.  When I select a section, no matter where the resolution is set, the markers for cut or copy end up at strange offtimes, like 3:03:107 or 64;2;39.  I cannot cut or copy on an 1/8, 1/4, bar, etc.
  • Same issue for Paste.  Whether I Paste or Paste Special, the section ends up at an off-time--even if I Paste | Special and specifically pick the time.  If I pick 2:2:60 (assuming 120 ticks per quarter), the section may past at 2:2:67 or 2:1:111, or some other random time.
  • Drawing notes has the same problem as above.  Notes show up at odd times even when the resolution is set correctly.  I have checked all the snap settings many times.  That is not the problem.
  • I put a track in record, press record, hear the notes on the correct, but nothing gets recorded.  The only way to get notes in the track is to draw on the staff and, as you see above, that is a huge pain.
  • Sonar has long had the problem that if you have "too many" VIs in a project (and the number for "too many" is never the same from one project to the next), you lose audio until some VIs are frozen or deleted.  This is getting worse.  Instead of losing audio with 10-13 VIs, I now lose audio after 5-6.  VIs = EZ Drummer 2, Vienna Pro 64, Kontakt 5, Ivory II, etc.--but that varies by project.
I have a fairly powerful i7 machine optimized for audio and 12 GBs of memory.  Windows Task Manager shows that the CPU and memory are never even close to being maxed out.  Right now, CPU is 3-10%, and memory is at 5.51GB out of 12.279 GB.

The question is what else is changing on your system?  Is Windows getting updated, are your drivers getting updated?

Software is typically not like an automobile, it doesn't "wear out".  I guess the install could be getting corrupted.  It is also possible that you have hardware that is starting to fail.

You might try a re-install which would correct a corrupted Sonar installation and/or re-install your drivers.  You might also do some system testing (like memtest.)

Do you have a system image you can restore to?  Could be your computer has some problems unrelated to Sonar and needs to be restored, or else maybe malware could have gotten on your computer.

Hi Konradh. That is strange indeed! I can't imagine what would cause these issues to suddenly appear, but just as an aside that may or may not apply, I have on occasion experienced what appeared to be strange behavior in cut/copy/paste in projects when I have accidentally engaged offset mode by touching the numeric 0 keyboard shortcut.

I would certainly consider a fresh install of win 7 and X1 if you have many continuing issues. There is no reason that X1 should not still function as well as it originally did on that platform. That said, it was not Sonar's finest hour IMHO. You are probably well aware and sick of hearing it, but I have found platinum a far superior DAW, and I still run win 7.

Good luck with sorting this out!

    Bruce.

I have had bizarre snap issues before, but found out I had apparently accidentally simply turned it off (Bypass Button - I think), in one of those click something while nodding off in the wee hours moments - and I too couldn't get things lined up on a beat - it was always just a little bit off, until I turned it back on.

Please note that per the documentation - Audiosnap can be turned on or off on a clip by clip basis.  Is it possible that when you are looking at settings, you are not noticing the Audiosnap Bypass Button is on/off?

This is from Platinum documentation on AudioSnap (I don't have X1 installed anymore):

    "Enabling/disabling AudioSnap

You can enable/disable AudioSnap processing on a clip-by-clip basis.

Transient markers are always available to be edited, but AudioSnap is not active on a clip unless at least one transient marker has been stretched.

By disabling AudioSnap on a clip that has stretched transient markers, you can compare how the clip sounds with and without AudioSnap processing. Disabling AudioSnap can also temporarily free up CPU processing power.

    To enable or disable AudioSnap

    1. Select the audio clips you want to enable/disable AudioSnap on.
    2. Do one of the following:
        >Click the Bypass button in the AudioSnap palette.
        >Click the Enable check box in the Clip Inspector’s AudioSnap section.

AudioSnap is enabled/disabled on the selected audio clips, and transient markers are shown/hidden.

Note: AudioSnap is automatically enabled on a clip if you stretch a transient marker on the clip."

I have also recently discovered that for some as of yet unresponsive to fixing attempts reason - that despite having 32 GB of memory installed on the computer, if I go to: Control Panel\System and Security\System, it shows that 32 GB of memory is installed, but only about 14.5 GB is available for use.  That is a GIANT chunk of memory Windows 'sees' but does not allow me to access.  Turns out that about 17 GB of my installed memory is being flagged as "Hardware Reserved" (Resource Monitor).  I am in the process of attempting to correct that, but just thought maybe you might want to look in Control Panel\System and Security\System to see how much of your 12 GB of installed memory is available to you (just in case).

More information: Even if I Paste | Special and specifically enter a time (like 2:3:000), the pasted material will still be off (like 2:2:107 or whatever).  It is hard to see how that could be a sap setting or a Windows issue.

I will upgrade soon but this is still very annoying.
