General Error

I get sometimes the General Error message when I want to save my project, and to get rid of the error I have to play a little bit of the project then press save that fix the issue.
Any knows what is the issue for?
Thanks for any help

I've seen this message before on older versions of Sonar, maybe back as far as X1 but it never actually caused a problem, the save itself was always successful.

What version of Sonar are you using?

    Which release of Platinum?

Is your Windows current with all maintenance?

BIOS, Firmware, & Drivers for audio interface and other system components all up to date?

Have you gone into the Windows Event Viewer to see if there are any recorded errors that correspond to the same times as your general errors?

Are you using any 32-bit plugins in a 64-bit environment?

Are there any steps that you can post back with, where it seems more likely to happen?  Maybe some weird glitch is set up only when a particular set of things are done in a certain order, that kind of thing.

It would seem to me that since there are not a whole bunch of folks with this error posting a bunch of threads about it, that it is likely local to some configuration issue or possibly some plugin being a little flaky. That might mean it is solvable, once its source can be determined.

Try bumping up your disk I/O buffers to 512 under sync and caching (advanced mode) in preferences. The only time I got that error was due to a massive file and upping the I/O buffers resolved it (not to be confused with audio buffers, they are a different beast).

    thanks for your reply
Yes . every things are up to date and I am not running any 32 bit plugins. As I said as soon as I play a little bit of the song and then press save it works.
Only thing is the project is too big. It is about 35 minutes.

Yup - the above could well help too - if still having issues with it set back up to 512, then try 768 or even 1024.

Hope that fixes you up.  I don't really know why they dropped the default on these 2 buffers from 500 to 250 or 256 or whatever that new default is - MANY folks have found that to be quite simply too small, and when they bumped those buffers either back to the old defaults or up for some as high as 1024 it fixed them right back up.

Thanks Robert. I will try it . I hope this fix the issue. By the way does increasing buffer size make the Computer lazy to start and stop? because folk say doesn't but if it doesn't slow down the computer to read and write why it is not set on maximum by default? what is the advantage and disadvantage of buffer size?
    Thanks again

I had this randomly appear about 12 months ago whilst working on a project (in Platinum, whatever the version was back then.) There was no 'one thing' I could pin it down to, it just decided after a few hours of working on it that it wouldn't save without the general error message. I saved the project as a different name, and it saved no problems, and worked fine from that day on!

When I saw that a subsequent save fixed it for that save.
I have no idea what caused it or why it went away but I haven't seen it in forever.

It may be that a bad block or two have developed on the drive too. run HD Tune on the disk you are saving to.

When I 1st got my computer a year ago, I had quite a few problems with that, even on the very first day. I just hit the spacebar 2x quickly and it'd be ok.

I had a lot of instability, but after lots of hard work and tweaking I have a very stable computer and haven't seen that error in about 6 months or so. I'm not sure what caused it either

ok I think I found out what was the problem. It seems sonar doesn't like a really long projects and shows some random issue like general error or moving the midi notes to left and right after input a new velocity and make the notes out of the sync. I realized these issues just show themselves on the long projects which mine was 45 minutes .
I replicated another long project by adding some waves and problem showed again.
