I just learned last night...

That Günter Hager had passed -  Tangerine Dream fan, synth maker and sound designer extraordinaire... Two years ago, at the age of 60. How does that happen?

Some of you might have downloaded his free synths - he distributed them under the name HG Fortune. CM Music featured a few of them.

I don't know how many of my songs were inspired by his free virtual instruments, and they were one of the very few things (besides René C./Cakewalk synths) that I missed after switching to Mac in 2010. They were just so inspiring...

I was lucky enough to get in touch with him 7 or 8 years ago, and he showed a sincere interest in my work and the songs that had been inspired by his creations. We exchanged a few e-mails and then life got in the way, as it often does...

Anyway, last night, I was re-building an old Sonar song in Logic, remembering exactly when and how the inspiration came, remembering that one synth of his called ProtoPlasm, so I thought I'd look up good old Günter.

Who is no more.:(

So here's one more reason to finish that re-mix of an old song of mine inspired by one of his synths. RIP Günter Hager. Your soul and your sounds live on...

Nice post, Rain.  I didn't know anything about this gentleman, but you make me wish I had known him.

I suppose on a very personal level ,
The attributes of grief and loss have no such thing as an emotional time limit or expiration date  .
You may find out when you find out of a persons passing , then you get to feel the loss.

As far as H G Fortune went , I had no idea that he was Günter Hager .In hind sight , in my case that is probably a good thing .
Back in my days of using SONAR 5 and 6 PE in XP , some of the best (IMHO ) creative music I ever came up with involved using a handful of the H G Fortune freeware cut down synths ...
I would send out a personal e mail to "H G " with a  link to my tune that I used featuring the sounds I was getting from his synths . I was always trying to say thanks for the use of his instruments . He would always get back to me after listening to the tune and he would let me know what he liked . In some cases he would even offer me constructive feedback and help on how to get sounds .
People like that don't come around too often ....
All his synths are now freeware , they can be found here ...best way to see them or get them is to hit zip in the right side of the page under download options ...

all the best,

Oh Yeah , Life is Good .
The internet is nothing more than a glorified real time cartoon we all star in.
I play a "Gibson " R 8 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst .
