Insert MIDI clip?

Hey guys! My first time here, I'm trying SONAR's demo and I'm currently loving it, apart from needing to learn the new shortcuts I'm having a total blast. The Pro Channel is one of the coolest things ever.
My only gripe is ... I produce electronic based music, so there's a lot of loops involved. And one of my habits is to arrange my track with empty midi clips separating each part of the song. Imagine this but without the midi info, only the "blocks"

For example, for my my bass I would draw an 16 bar loop for the intro and then a 8 bar loop for the verse.

I can't seem to find a way to do this, I'm managing only to create clips AFTER I insert info on the piano roll, and not before (I imagine I'm doing something wrong here, since my experience with most of others DAWs like Ableton, Cubase and Bitwig shows me they have function). So, is there something of the sorts in Sonar? Or I'm confined to only creating clips as I go through the piano roll?

Thanks

In Sonar you cannot have an empty clip - it must contain data even if it's only a single note, then you can make the clip as long as you want.

There's a really simple workaround.

1. Position the now time where you want the clip to start.
2. Choose Insert > Bank/Patch Change and click OK.

It won't look like you've created a clip, but if you hover the mouse over the now time, you can slip-edit to the right and roll the clip out for as many measures as you like.

There are other options...you can create a "dummy" clip that includes something like controller data. Name the clip and drag it into the Media Browser's "MIDI Groove Clips" folder. Then you can drag the clip back in at any time and change its length.
