[Solved] Can't drag and drop WAV or MP3 into track view

Really puzzled here ... this is something that appeared with the upgrade to win10

I used to be able to simply drag and drop MP3 or WAV files from the windows browser into the track view and Sonar would import and if necessary convert them. Now I can no longer drag and drop (mouse symbol changes i.e. I can't drop the files), BUT I can still import the regular way from the file menu. Any ideas what's causing this?

I'm pretty sure this is win 10 because it also affects X3 - and on the win 8.1 DAW I can still drag & drop in either X3 and Plat

I can D+D in windows 8.1 using S Plat. though its been a few day since ive done it and cant remember if this last update was installed or not. I will give it a whirl and get back to you.
possibly a setting in Sonar ? check the preference menu for anything to do with Audio.

    I'll be back later.

I think it has something to do with admin mode. Are you running SONAR as an admin?
The shell blocks D&D of certain files via UAC.

    Thanks - that's it :-)

I had "Run this program as administrator" checked for the shortcut. When I uncheck, drag and drop works.

What's the recommendation these days? Any need to run anything as admin anymore?

Depends on what add-ins are used. In general, modern software does not require admin to run. The last plug-in bundled with SONAR requiring admin, Pentagon was dropped when the new SONAR was released last year. The old 32bit IK plug-ins required admin. SoundForge may require admin. I am sure there are more.

Thanks. I have gone 64bit plugs only (the 2 or 3 32bits I still carry in the plugin layout, I do not use anymore), so that might mean I'm better off without running as admin ...?

Anyway, more information still welcome :-)

It would seem admin is not necessary in your case. D&D works from the media browser either way.

I have cakewalk by bandlab and I can't drag and drop a mp3 into a track from a folder. The imports though does work. My cakewalk sonar home studio this function works very well. Any ideas?
