Waiting Here

Big Band song, needs solos.  I realize the horns sound over compressed, but these sound better than the earlier ones, no?

yep!  those horns are overly compressed!  I can't comment on whether they sound better than the previous ones because I didn't hear the previous version.

the horns are overpowering everything else, tho.
    the bass sounds "timid", non-fluent.

siren type thing with the horns doing are kind of grating after a couple of them.  I'd definitely try to find something else to put there.

the end just kind of stopped - no resolution.

hope you keep working on this!  it could have some potential!

This was really interesting to listen to, eph221.

My favourite parts so far are from about :44 - 1:20 where the bass indicates harmonic direction and structure with the horns. That was really creative especially where, at some points, the bass does a bit of bubbling, which I enjoyed, too. This section seems to hold much promise for rounding into a finished production.

Looking forward to how you develop this piece and thanks for the good listen,

well. the first 40 seconds or so are a good scene setter for the John Zorn style madness which follows. i'm not sure if you're playing any of this or using soft synths, but there are quite a few timing issues. of course, these may be intended to add chaos. it is difficult to see where you take this, personally I would use the initial descending horn sequence only in a kinda Portishead-style trip-hop piece...

Thanks for the good analyses friends.  This does sound rather annoying, way more annoying than the *gnat* song I recorded;  but I was trying to evoke the annoyance of waiting for someone or something that seems like will never arrive. :D  John Zorn...I have to do some investigating.  That middle section has a lot of moving parts that you cant even hear in the mix I shared.  I"ll have to redo it.

Wow that was pretty wild. Interesting track. I don't know if it's something I'd really listen to normally, but I'm glad I did at least the once :-)

Thanks Polar Bear,  when I listened with my third ear, I realized how annoying it is.  I apologize for having wasted everyone's time, unless the artful experience has made  life better, somehow.
