Should I go back to sleep?

I have these wonderful dreams where I'm playing guitar and I'm able to produce these great soaring solos!  In real life, I've always been just a rhythm player...  I know about half-a-dozen "canned" leads (that is, leads created by others that I attempt to reproduce) and have only created a couple of leads of my own.

Learning lead theory for real sounds like a lot of work (and tends to require having an actual guitar in your possession).  I think I should just go back to sleep.  What do you think?

In my limited ability, lead is about the only thing that comes a bit naturally for me.....no, not even rhythm. Of course, I don't know any lead theory so it either sounds good or it don't.

They say "everything is sales."  Unfortunately, I can't stand "selling."

Same here Mesh. My lead guitar is the product of hours of trial and error until I get something that tells a story. Then  hours of honing it until I can play 'through' it and get some feeling in there.

I have no theory at all, other what sounds and feels 'right' to me.

What generally has worked for me is "getting into the groove" of the song......the more it moves me, the easier it is to get the part down with more feeling. I suppose that's a big reason why I really like the blues.......I can play that until my fingers bleed......a good glass of merlot will "set" the atmosphere in motion.

YES.

Me on the other hand NO. All my dreams are filled with somewhere I am trying to get to and can't get there or things I can't find. Always looking, never finding... fighting and struggling too. Now and then I have a pleasant dream though.
