Which template used to open a midi file?
When I open Sonar for the first time, Basic.cwt template is used, which I set up with my preferences.
But when I open a MIDI file as a new project, it uses a different template, which I would like to adapt.
Does anyone know tell me which template is used when I open a MIDI file?

Sixteen Channel MIDI?
I only have X3 here, so I don't know if Platinum has different templates.

Unless things have changed you can create your own template. The basic opens 2 audio, 2 midi.

I think I did not express myself properly.
In Windows Explorer, I right click on a .MID file and I open it with Sonar.
Sonar opens the MIDI file as a new project (including automatically an instance of TTS).
The problem is that this new project comes with a template that I always need to adjust manually (recording mode, browser, etc.).
If I knew what the template Sonar used in this case, I could adjust it.

I don't think there is a particular template when loading midi files in Sonar. At least the window layout is the one from the project that was used last in Sonar, so it differs.
But it would be nice to have a particular template that is used when loading midi files. It could define the instuments to be used for midi files, instead of using TTS-1 as default.

why not open sonar first, then open your midi file in there.
open sonar, insert the TTS, drag the midi file to the TTS track.
experiment, play around till you find what you like.
then save that as a project template. now every time you open sonar you can use that template.
im not aware of any special templates in sonar for midi except the default template.
that opens one midi track, one audio track.

I just opened a MIDI file from Windows Explorer in X3. I'm pretty sure it's the 16 Track MIDI template.

I don't think there is a particular template when loading midi files in Sonar.
AFAIK, this is the case. When a MIDI file is opened, the project is built on the fly from the MIDI data. In X3 and newer if there is no MIDI output preference, TTS-1 is added along with an audio track and the MIDI tracks routed to TTS-1. I do not believe there is any way to modify this process.

I thought that it was hard-coded as well since it always does the open/TTS-1 routing in an non-maximized state. However, there is nothing to preclude you from saving that as a template and importing other MIDI, BUT be advised that an import strips off tempo information (it will not "overwrite" the current project settings). A MIDI file must be launched with SONAR to import its tempo map, which will probably trump any template niceties.

A Standard MIDI file can have any number of tracks/channels in it. A template wouldn't work for that. Keep in mind Sonar views a MIDI file as a native file format. No different from a CWP file.
