"All She Needs" New Original

Hi Group,

Been working my butt off and had little time to make music as much as I want or visit the forum here. So many great tunes and people and just not enough time to go around.

Anyway,  I was working on a song that a buddy of mine wrote many years ago.... It was put down on a cassette player with some guitar. I ran across it recently .... cleared the dust off of it and remembered that I always thought is had a sweet spot and wanted to develop it further.

Cut to a couple of weeks ago..... I was fooling around with it and trying to sing it and really sounding like crap. Robin came in from the grocery store and I pleaded with her to help me sing it ..... give me some advice cause I was about ready to give up.
I asked her how should I sing it?  ... She put the bags down and scooted up to the mic and said "here's how I would sing it"

She started singing and my jaw dropped off my face..... It was a perfect fit. We decided to do another duet but she clearly is the star here. Her voice is in another Galaxy.  Mix ain't perfect but let me know what you think.

Crank it up!

Regards
Craig

Robin and I are trading parts.... she's singing half of the verses and choruses.
    I'm singing the other halves.........

    I like it.
There is nothing wrong with your voice. Great song and performance by you both.
The only thing I might change is reduce the reverb a bit on the vocal in the intro. Otherwise, very nice.

Thank you for the heads up on the reverb... Really didn't jump out at me because I've been listening to it during the mixing process and just got used to it.
I'll try lowering it and see what it sounds like.

I'm confused -- is that a woman singing the beginning verses of the song?  Whoever it is, that is a very commercial sounding voice.  Unfortunately -- for everyone -- that kind of voice was commercial back when radio etc. pumped out great performances of great songs.  Her voice (?) and yours (at the end?) are classic sounding pop/rock.  The song is arranged well and the the instrumental performances are also solid.  A terrific demo.   !!

    Allan,

Thanks for that...  My girl Robin and I like to work together on this stuff and she really has a sultry and amazing voice and a terrific ear for production. She sang jingles for a while professionally and was in a variety of bands when she was younger. She has the kind of voice than can captivate with just a single guitar or piano accompaniment.  She has helped me with my vocal phrasing tremendously. I'm a reluctant singer for sure but I'm starting to warm up to the idea of working on the voice more.   We switched off on the lines in the song that seemed to be more gender specific and it's kinda like she's the "girl in the neighborhood" singing 3rd person about herself.
As far as what's cool and popular today...... production values are very cool.....  a good song comes along every once in a while. A great song even more rare... I was recently listening to a song called "Electric Blue" and it reminded me again of just how many masterfully produced songs and performances came out of the 80's.

Really nice song and performances. I like your voice.
Mix-wise (just my personal taste) there is too much reverb on the main vocal and the snare gets lost in the mix.

Overall it sounds pretty good here...   The vocal trade-offs (if I'm catching them correctly) are subtle, but work nicely!   Another catchy tune.

Mix-wise I agree about the reverb being just a bit heavy, and the kick seems to have a lot of "click" to it, at least in headphones.

Holy crap. Really really really good. Nice tune, great vocal performances. Mix holds the interest, nice panning and such. The mix on the background vocals really supports the song and the lead voc, just as it should!

Another holy crap for ya: I'd definitely look at reducing the vocal reverb by about 1/2 of what it is now, and same for the snare. That would dry it up a little and it would no longer sound dated, and by that I mean 1972 - 1984  :)   Although I get Allan's comment, if that's what you were shooting for era-wise, totally nailed it.

I think your lead vocal would have put you on the short list for superstardom in the aforementioned time period! You can sing, bro.

    cheers,
    -Tom

    Craig,

Cool song.   Agree on the verb, it is a little wet all around, i.e., vocals and drums.   Drums sound a hair over-compressed as well.   That said, very good song and performances.   Really like the BVox harmonies and guitar solo too:)
