Elastique Pitch V2 feedback problem in Sonar
I just updated to the new version of zplanes Elastique Pitch V2. After playing around with all the new features I got a self-sustaining feedback which ends up in terrible noise and the handle fills the whole 2d area. I figured out that the dry/wet control is responsible for that behavior. Does anybody has this problem or can verify it. Here is how I can reproduce it. 1. Have an audio track (with or without clips) 2. Insert Elastique Pitch V2 in the FX-bin 3. Only set dry/wet control to anything lower than 100% 4. Start playback With the dry/wet control set to 50% and no clip on the track the handle gets bigger after 20 sec and after 25 sec you got a pulsing clipping noise. With any clip playing back it starts earlier. With higher percentages it tacks longer. This problem doesn’t appear in Pro Tools 11 and Audition CS6 (32bit). Thank you.

I can't help with your issue sorry ... but ... FYI - the latest Computer Music (Issue 220) magazine is all about pitch and zplane features prominantly. There's a review of Elastique Pitch 2 ... and a giveaway of Vielklang 2 (CM edition). See the Elastique video at: http://bit.ly/CMEPitch2

I know the video. The video is also linked form the products page of the zplane site. Elastique Pitch is a really high quality real-time pitch shifter. I use it most of the time for playbacks for classical instruments to pitch the VSTIs to 442 Hz or higher. I also used it to used it to correct the pitch over time of choir, so that two different take fit together. I now found out that you just have to insert the plug-in on an empty audio track and set the dry/wet control to lower than 100 % (ex. 50%). You just have to wait about 20-30 sec and the self-sustaining feedback appears.

Does toggling the 64bit Double Precision Engine in SONAR Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings make any difference?

The bakers have informed me they are aware of the bug and it will be fixed ASAP. AFAIK you have to touch the feedback button to trigger this, even if you set the feedback back to zero. Yet the mix ratio can be anything except 0 or 100 to make this happen. And it's a Sonar-only bug. According to the bakers it's due to the way Sonar handles plug ins.

Thank you Jyri T. Good to know they are working on it. I have the same experience that there is no way to stop the feedback. Let's hope the bakers fix it with the next update.

Just a quick update. Version 2.0.3 of Elastique Pitch V2 is available. But unfortunately this update and the Gloucester update fixed the problem. Jyri T. do you have a CWBRN number or does it make sens to create a problem report?

Sorry, when I said "bakers" I meant the "makers of the plug in", not the "bakers of Cakewalk Sonar". I'll have to try out the update if it makes a difference.

Just a quick follow-up. The makers of Elastique have told me that they are still working on the bug. They say they know it's got something to do with how Sonar handles buffers but they haven't figured out yet what the fix would be. In the meanwhile I have been able to use Pitch V2 within the BlueCat 'wrapper' PatchWork. I have also another plugin that only works in Sonar within PW, ie. Metric Halo Character. So whatever Elastique and Character can't handle on their own, PW can fix. I presume other wrappers may be able to do the trick, too.

Feedback problem SOLVED!

I got a message from Zplane that they have figured out a solution for this issue. Go to plugin manager, open the plug-in properties of Elastique Pitch V2 (from the list of all registered VST2 plugins in the middle, not from the list of your preferred ones on the right) and set the number of max used inputs to 2 (instead of 8). In the picture it says "Channel Tools" but ignore that. It should say "ElastiquePitchV2" or so.

Thanks for the information and keeping track. Nice that we can use it now. But for me it seems to be more a work around than a bug fix. The channels which are not in use are causing the feedback. This setting restricts Sonar only to use the set amount of channels. I checked it with a surround channel. If you set the input to 8 you got the feedback, if you set it to 6 it’s working fine. Do you know if they are working on a final solution? In v1 the max inputs is set to 8 and it don’t made any problems.

I presume they will fix it in an update yet they did not say that in the message I got.

I've been in touch with the ZPlane developers and sent them some information regarding this issue. The problem was caused because SONAR uses all the inputs available as stereo pairs. The plugin manager settings in the post above can be used as a workaround but Zplane will be investigating a fix from their end that is more optimal.

This from Zplane: We finally figured it out and for the next release (not the 2.0.4, which went online today, but the next) there will be a build-in fix.

I just noticed that 2.04 is online and that the bug isn't fixed. But good news that they take care of it.

Version 2.05 is out. There is nothing mentioned in the release notes about a fixed "Sonar" bug, but it seems that the bug has been fixed.

I guess they are referring to the very problem within Sonar when they say "fixed: cross talk in multi-channel setups under certain conditions". Good news!
