short guitar solo with mesa boogie markIIb, direct and mic -vid
just a quick trial video, to see if i can line up audio from my DAW, with the cheapy-little movie maker software i'm just learning to use. Listen with headphones and high def for best sound, file i uploaded was simply imported as 16 bit 44.1khz, and that's what i dropped in the movie maker program. cab=roland open back with Celestion Heritage G12h-55 mic=shure ksm44 direct=palmer PDI-09 delay= yamaha DG stomp, tape delay setting, in boogie FX loop. each track hard panned left/right, no DAW effects or EQ.

wow, is that you? It sounded great! I thought you had a Jerry Garcia look, no? You look more like Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Harrison That is if Jerry had some *care* done to his face. (BTW you have a bigger nose, don't worry) :D:D

hey mesh, i tried to balance the sound just using my ears, and the faders, but obviously, one side favors more frequencies than the other..... and it has to do with which one is the mic, and which one is direct. maybe i just had a stopped up head that day!

thanks for checking it out freddy, the vid software (microsoft movie maker) is very basic, i mostly just have to drag the audio into the video file, and line up the audio. it's easy to do, but HARD to get the audio to line up with the video track.... Rimshot Good to see you bat!

hey voda, that blew my mind, i put on the phones to listen, and can't remember which side is which!! LOL which i guess is a good thing, and a testament to the palmer... that said, i'm still always trying to dial in the best capture for both.. usually i use a shure sm57 on the guitar cab, but i happened to have my shure ksm44 out, so i just used it... i'll pull that audio up tonight and see which was which.... i've had that mesa head since 1982, so in the big scheme, had it for 34 years, i've only paid 22.05 bucks a year to own that thing. LOL

Yeah, I'm impressed with the Palmer. I swear, when I listen it has that DI sound, ever so subtly, from the left, and the right has that Mic sound. The full chord you hit at the beginning is what I'm listening to. The rest is too hard to distinguish. I'm curious to know what you find when you pull up the audio... 22 bucks a year is actually pretty cheap, in the grand scheme of things, huh? Yeah, I'm amp shopping right now in hopes something else out there will impress me and save me from going completely broke to get a Mesa single rec.

I'm curious to know what you find when you pull up the audio... well, pulled up the audio, mic on left, palmer on right. i didn't have it labeled at all in sonar, but i noticed my palmer was still plugged into my #2 mic preamp slot, and i haven't recorded since the vid. LOL hell, who knows, maybe i dragged and dropped the audio even... honestly, i can't tell even when i solo it on the playback... i tried to position the shure ksm44 so it would pick up the 'edgier' side of the speaker, that would some what match what i know the palmer does.... so, i had one of those Mini rec's in the house a couple of years ago, was very impressed. if you don't need a touring or loud stage-level amp, that might be a good choice. mini rec http://www.ebay.com/itm/M...855:g:eCkAAOSwl9BWLpqjmesa single rec, 50 watt version of the monster http://www.ebay.com/itm/M...814:g:eh8AAOSwRLZULHjH

Yep, I've been checking that one out on line, listening to sound comparisons and all that. The mini can also achieve a couple tones that the full blown rec's cannot since it has that power switch from 25 to 10 watts. I need to hear one in person. I'm hoping to do that this week. I want to hear it side by side with a single 50 watt rec. I'm worried that the lower output power is going to change the tone negatively, at least in comparison. I also want to know about the tube rectifier section, to see if it's the same tube or not, and then how the tone is affected being half power. I have been impressed with what I've heard on line so far....I may end up with one yet. Thanks Bat!

I enjoyed that Rob. It was good to see you playing. And hearing of course. You did a fine job lining up the video. I see you are using Windows Movie Maker, which, for what it is, is a great piece of software, but I found it a bit limiting when it came to doing this sort of stuff. I have since forked out for Sony Movie Maker Platinum. I think it cost me less than £100. Much better for syncing sound to video, for the price point anyway. cheers andy
