still have strange noise have more questions
hi everyone, a week or so ago I posted a question about a noise that seems random, which means I can't seem to find what triggers it. I've been working with the techs at FOCUSRITE thinking maybe the new interface could be the problem. it's SCARLETT 2i2 however we still can't locate the problem. I have downloaded a few diagnostic tools they recommended like latency monitors where I will run the test and then send them the results, again, can not find the problem. I have been paying attention to what i'm doing when the noise starts, yesterday and today I have been recording very basic audio tracks, about 10 hours worth the the noise started. as I've said before, it sounds like plugging in a guitar when the amp is on and standby is off, i'm sure you know what I mean. I have also videoed what the computer, sonar and everything looks like while the noise is happening, I don't know if I can attach videos to this forum, if there is a way please let me know, or I can send them (I have 2) to anyone who is interested. what I've noticed so far is the transport will run while the noise is happening, I can make it stop by saving (thank goodness) what i'm doing then either close the project or go to preferences. today, i'm trying to track down what this could be and one thing I did was run the CWAFT and I see loads of things that are very old and not used. one of the things that are listed with the track name is ORPHAN. can someone tell me what that means and is it safe to delete it from inside the AUDIO FINDER TOOL?? tomorrow being Monday i'll be on the phone with Focusrite and or anyone else I can think of to figure this out. I believe my computer specs are located in my profile so you can see what i'm using. I have no games or anything else on this machine that would take up space, I disable anti virus when running sonar. I can't think of anything more I can tell you to help understand this. what I can tell you is, I spend more time trying to figure this out then I do playing music. this sucks. thanks so much pinter

When I bought my Focusrite 18i20 (moved up from a 2i2) I had problems with it making a really loud 'hash' noise. Not as you describe though. This squeals like the noise a fax machine used to make. Digital hash. Same thing as you though, save, shut down, reopen, then OK, until it would do it again. It was my driver. Don't know if I got a bad download, or whether it was when win10 was out and Focusrite were having some issues. Just remember I had to download it again, a couple of times, reinstalling, until, suddenly it worked OK. Even now however, maybe once every couple of months, it does it, and I have to shut down and repower everything up, and it's good again for ages. So it may be worth a try, particularly if you've removed asio4all, because I had that too, trying to get a Mackie interface to work. Maybe that driver corrupts the other somehow? Only other think that comes to mind is your PC and touch screen. I started with a HP touchscreen all-in-one. Had to disable everything that computer did!! Touch screen, wifi, Bluetooth, in-built mic and camera. Also, make sure all your power settings are set to NEVER and that your USB ports/HDD are not being hibernated. I had some of these settings change earlier this year with a win10 update!!! Hope you find it and get back to your music.......

Hi - he was suggesting that if you were to break up that long block of text from your in itial post for this thread, into several paragraphs, it would be easier for folks to read - that's all. :) I am hoping to help you tonight with this, if I can. Are you still in need of assistance with this issue? Bob Bone

Scarlett 2i2 are buss powered and this often causes noise. A freind of mine had one for a while and after having this and a few other issues upgraded to the 6i6 like I have and the problems went away. One thing that made a difference with the noise was he used a USB cable with a Ferrite Yoke. You can find them sitting around,, it looks like a snake swallowing a C cell...

Have you eliminated plugins that need to be authorised or re-authorised
I know IK Amplitube plugins will give a burst of static noise when they need to be authorised - even if the transport is not running
I would suggest opening a blank project with no plugins to eliminate a rogue plugin as the source of your noise

hi everyone, really want to thank all of you for taking the time to offer suggestions, i don't know how to address each one of you on this forum so this will have to do and i hope i don't forget anything. @MacFurse, i actually had the 6i6 for a while and i could't get it to work, i really believe windows 10 was/is the problem. today, i reinstalled my roland quad-capture and while i had a tech at sweetwater help me set it up he said something interesting, on my computer all of my USB's are 3.0. according to HP they should work with anything that needs 2.0. today i was told that's not so, however, i can have a tech at HP or geek squad go into the BIOS and change one USB port to 2.0. i have a feeling this is the main problem. @ cactus, that's what i'm using. @ boydie, i have checked all the plugins and tried to work without any activated but the noise returns. what i'm going to do now is use the roland to see if i still get the noise and first thing tomorrow i'm going to see about changing the BIOS. i spend all my time doing this crap and not playing any music. i'm getting very depressed about the whole thing.
