Follow Me (Acoustic Mix)
Follow Me (Acoustic Mix) Hello music friends, I found my way to Sonar Professional in March of 2016 and here is my first mix for your review, feedback, digestion, indigestion and likely congestion. This music was originally recorded in 1989 when I was a young music student at a big old southern U.S. university. I pursued the dream of 'rock star' until the LIFE said get job! I think a few of us have been there. Some 20 years later a band mate sought me out. He had kept old cassette tape recordings of songs and gigs we did in the Days of Haze (as we call it). We have chosen several songs to reproduce in the 21st century with 21st century technology. Enter Sonar and digital. When I left the studios I was cutting 1/4'' 15ips tape with razor blades.. hows that for dating myself. So here, I submit "Follow Me" one of 8 songs that we will have released on an EP in the nearest of futures. Mix on my brothers and sisters. Be good. https://soundcloud.com/20...16/follow-acoustic-mix

Sounds like Simple Minds to me. I personally liked it. Mixing seems ok to me but I am not a mixing genius... Nice '80s style :)

It definitely has that Edge sound to the guitars. The mix comes across nicely here, everything has an element of space around it, perhaps at that the 3:00 mark a little lead from the guitar or keys would have been nice, but it is your song and arrangement. Thanks for sharing.

Cool stuff. I'd get to the vocal quicker, and maybe bring the vocal up in the mix. Sounding good. I think the intro might be the weakest part of the track. Maybe the kick / bass part could come up a bit, too, more bottom to support the top? looking forward to hearing more of your stuff. cheers, -Tom

Other than wanting to hear a little more bass and maybe bottom end in general, the mix sounds pretty good here - good clarity and separation. Maybe just a little more delay on the vocal? Anyway, it definitely has a late 80's feel to it that comes across well.

Thanks for everyone's feed back! I was influenced by the times for certain, and being in college at the time brought influences such as U2, Simple Minds, Cure, Love & Rockets, - the slew of it. It's most interesting to listen to the old recording and hear the amount of raw energy we had. Ah, Youth! Good feedback on the elements, I appreciate the compliments on separation. I confess I am struggling with the bottom end. It simply is not present in my home studio setup. Not the best of environments. This is the first song I've mixed with new monitors, Yamaha HS8, and I know I'm not hearing the bottom end as well as I should. I am still learning what good low end sounds like on these monitors. Any suggestions from HS8 users?
