Broken by Hansen/Cannizzaro

While my first Sonar  mix attempt, Follow Me, moves to the back burner to simmer and my mind to un-clutter, I submit my very second mix in Sonar.  This is not my recording or production but purely a client mix.  Who has handed over an 8 song EP  to mix and master(?) That's another rabbit hole altogether.

So here is Broken  by  Hansen/Cannizzaro in its third version - I take notes from the client and address each point they have and return a mix. How long does this go on? Well, how many licks does it take to get to the center of Tootsie Pop? Only the venerable Owl knows.

Just reading your description alone was enticing enough.

I hear some hiss that maybe should not be there? To me it's like tape hiss.

This was such a sloooooooooow burn to the build and then a let down IMO.

The wind was bit too much for me but maybe that's what the artists want.

Hi Bapu, I wonder if the hiss is being caused by dithering?  I'll have to check those settings. The build does ramp up slowly; the arrangement is the clients, my goal is to make the elements balance and sound appeasing.  Wind? That perplexes me.  There is a rain and thunder track in the mix. If it's coming across as wind, I need to look deeper into the EQ there.  Environmental tracks can be problematic.  I did a slight low end boost to get the thunder to 'rumble' as it were.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

Yeah, it sounded like wind noise on the microphone to me, too.

Did they record this in a place like this? In the rain?

    Pleasant enough tune.

    cheers,

I suspect its a loop from a loop shop.  I've fiddled with the higher EQ settings.  Are you hearing a low rumbling wind or a high pitched swooshing wind.  I'll keep tweaking and doing listening tests too!
