Surround Questions

I'm tired of using three stereo tracks (or four tracks, if you include the dedicated surround bus) for every surround-enabled soft synth.  [See red tracks in attached image.]  Is there a better way?

I've tried inserting "simple tracks" (yellow and blue tracks in the attached image), hoping that Sonar would automatically route Absynth's (e.g.) six channels accordingly.  Instead, Sonar combines everything to the L and R tracks with no (apparent) opportunity for adjustment.

I've also tried using Patch Points to route the requisite three stereo tracks to a surround track and then hide the superfluous tracks, but this didn't work either.  Again, everything is routed to the L and R channels with no apparent opportunity for adjustment.

Finally, and this might be completely irrelevant, what is the "LFE Send" control displayed in the simple tracks (again, indicated in yellow and blue) in the Track View?  It pops up whenever simple tracks are routed to a surround bus.  [The yellow track demonstrates a display bug.  Blue's LFE Send will do the same, eventually.]  This is probably wishful thinking, but I was hoping it indicated some hidden surround support in the simple tracks.  By contrast, the red tracks have no such LFE Send control.  Any idea what's going on here?
