Can't get enough of this break!

There's just something about this part of a break in Whitesnake's Still of the Night that I can't get enough of and I think I know what it is!  The guitarist, John Sykes (ironically no longer in the band when the video was made), used a bow with his guitar ala Jimmy Page.  I just love the sound and the note choices!  I could loop this over and over...

The part I'm talking about begins at 3:21.

Great playing, worst violin bow miming ever!

I've always liked this track, however my favorite part comes right after the bowed guitar part, there's a very tasty harmonized riff going on, great chords. The song's a total Zeppelin ripoff though.

Big time Zep rip!  Supposedly Jimmy was told to watch the video and he fell out of his chair when he saw the bowing.

That said, Led Zeppelin never ripped off anyone else's material, did they?

IIRC, none of the band in that vid played on the track or the album (except DC of course). The original musicians had been 'let go' by Coverdale by then.

Yeah, that's Adrian Vandenburg doing the bowing in the video.

I lurves me some early Whitesnake... the hair metal stuff not so much.

One of the most compelling live performances I ever witnessed was Whitesnake (David Coverdale, Micky Moody, Bernie Marsden, Neil Murray, Jon Lord, Ian Paice) performing a monumental version of Deep Purple's Mistreated.

Yep & yep, another funny thing (to me anyway) is that Vivian Campbell's playing a pink guitar and not Adrian (which was kind of his trademark).

I first heard "Fool For Your Lovin'" in the car on the way to school in about 1980. It sounded so dramatic and scary to me I decided I loved metal there and then. David Coverdale looks like a bit of a badass in the video as well. I like the guitar leads in early Whitesnake too, they sounded way more rough and ready. By 1988 I was thoroughly into thrash, was in a thrash/punk band and despised all hair rock including the Whitesnake of that era. But over the last few years I've come to appreciate the songwriting, musicianship, production and Tawny Kitaen of it.

    I like the Tawny parts.

I really like a lot of there stuff.  Very tasty riffage, IMO.  There was some really good hair metal stuff as long as the cameras stayed off of the dudes during the videos.

Great...  Another toy I'll want once I get back into things!  I've already got an E-Bow and will be getting the portable Sustainiac (the one that can attach to any guitar - i.e., non-permanent) soon after I get a new amp...
