I think it's hilarious that GM sells high end SUVs to high end hipsters by playing "Eminence Front".  The irony in that is so thick it can't be cut.

The problem with making sound, from any device, be it a guitar, keyboard, piano, drum, flute, harmonica, violin, cello, or whatever kind of real instrument is, people seem to be under the impression that that whatever you (C)opyright and post online, be it a SONG, which BTW MUSIC IS A SONG for those who don't realize you don't always need a cheesy voice singing something.

My Point, today's society seems to think that it's okay to take the main riff from a keyboard players song, or guitar players song, or flute players song... ETc.....  And they make money and know they wont get sued because they know the person posting it has no money after a quick internet check out of the person online.

I thought;

A song is a single (and often standalone) work of music intended to be sung by the human voice with distinct fixed pitches and patterns using sound and silence and a variety of forms that often include the repetition of sections.

It doesn't always have to be a song, I don't think! In the old days it was a symphony, but we got a bit lazy since!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Turns out that copyright holders can indeed prevent politicians from using their music. At least, if they're represented by BMI...

All legalities aside. If an artist makes a public statement that they don't want a candidate to use their music they've made it clear they don't support the candidate.

I suspect that's the goal of the artist. No court, no tom foolery, no $ sought. Just a simple statement to the world (that listens) that says "I do not support thee".

This has to be right.  Trump can enjoy Queen 24/7...except for a few minutes at a campaign rally?  Yeah, that's doing pretty much nothing except, as you say, making it clear the artist doesn't support the candidate.

Artists need to deal with the fact their fans are made up of people who would disgust them if they knew them, and those people are listening and being inspired by the artist's music all the live long day....
