Do I really matter to you?

I have been a loyal Cakewalk customer, purchasing a number of products and upgrades from you. The last purchase was an upgrade of Sonar 6 and I'm interested in new products. Currently, I need to load my software (Sonar 5) onto a new system since my old DAW crashed and is old. . Two weeks ago I discovered I need to have my old account moved to your new system and followed the procedures requesting that to be performed over two weeks ago (see tickets 321641 and 322557). I need the registration number of my purchases and I'm less than two weeks towards my software load expiring.

Do I really matter to you, or do you prefer I just take my business elsewhere?

Please refer to the above tickets for the product key and potential email addresses, and please include scottvallery @ ezkeyllc .com (no spaces).

Thanks!

This is a peer-to-peer forum, not a help desk.  I agree you have a problem, but you didn't pay me anything.  You might get some kind of solution from another member who had a similar problem and the Bakers do look in at times, but a less aggressive tone would probably get a more helpful response.

The short answer is no. Your software is obsolete and at least a dozen versions out of warranty. Right now users with current software are waiting for support backlogs to clear. Don't hold your breath.

This is a good time to point out to anyone reading this that it's important to document software ownership (license keys, registrations, etc.). I have files on my computers with this information but also have it backed up to USB thumb drives. There have been many times I've needed to reinstall software; this lets me do so easily (and is even more crucial if a company no longer exists).

It's also important to store original distribution files properly. It used to be easy when this was all done with CD- and DVD-ROMs; you'd put them in a disc wallet and pull them out when needed. But with so much software being handled by direct download, after downloading I burn the software to optical media and store it. Again, this has saved my butt numerous times. Even though many companies now manage licenses and registrations as a convenience to users, ultimately it is my responsibility to maintain records of what software I own.

John is right that users with current software are waiting for support backlogs to clear. So while Cakewalk continues to seek out and hire additional support people, they are prioritizing support for those having issues with current software.

A couple years ago, Cakewalk honored upgrade pricing from an old old version of Sonar to X3 producer.  I think I got x3 producer, AD2 and all the toys for $149 after 10+ years making no purchases.   I don't remember if I gave them my serial#, but I think we were able to establish it from past addresses.

They were pretty good with this kind of thing at least a couple years ago, but I hear they have ceased phone support.

I just went looking for the upgrade pricing info and I see everything is different now. In the past they posted all the pricing with I think, 3? options, first time purchase and the upgrade pricing. There was the special pricing listed as " Registered owner of any version of Sonar" I think. That's all gone as now and pricing is all done automatically in our account. In other words they already know what we own and which version so the shopping cart will automatically show that price.

So hmm, What would the OP pay??  On a different computer I logged in with my johnnyV account which has nothing registered. It now showed me full pricing on all versions. OK, I get it.  The store is very straight forward now. And it all goes back to the change to the one user log on a few years back.   If you fell behind and never registered that's your fault, not Cakewalk's. They certainly keep you informed via E mail what's going on. If you choose not to stay abreast of a companies updates you can only blame yourself.. And this forum always has any changes in large print at the top.
Sorry you came here with frustration trying to get help and only got a lecture. But that's what user forums are all about.

And who can we blame if you loose your registration numbers? They should be on the DVD case or box.. My old numbers are still in a little book I always used for passwords and now on a notepad document I store in my "software" folder. My new numbers are stored there too even though they are now on my account page.

Agree with you 100 percent.

I have an excel spreadsheet of all my software purchases usernames and registration codes going back 16 years.  It has saved my butt so many times it's not funny.

Many comments are right here, but:

1. CW has moved registration information from one place to another. And that process was not smooth. Back in time they was fixing problems on request rather fast (while my Sonar 8.5 LE has not managed to the new system even after several iterations). For a customer who has not moved the account "in time", that is relatively lengthy procedure now. I know from this forum that all such problems are solved after a while. But that part is hard to call user's fault.

2. Saving serial numbers was a good idea for older products. But I think it is fair to add that for current Cakewalk products that is useless, they can not be activated without proper information in CW online DB. So all these numbers (apart from user's password) have absolutely no meaning, either when known or not.

These are all good points and I do have that type of stuff saved on file but my account has my registration number which I don't have. I've got serial numbers and all the stuff that came with the software but my account has the registration.
