Just want to say thanks to Cake for the Theme Editor

As mentioned in the tag, I just want to thank Cakewalk for creating and releasing the Theme Editor.  This is a feature that I've been waiting for a long time.  I'm just hoping that Cake and some of our users can create some cool themes and share them with the community since it looks like it might take me a while to figure it out.

Regards

Same here. I know sometimes people think Cakewalk does not listen, but they really do.
this Editor is a feature I remember Cakewalk saying we will never do that.
But like any good company, they make changes to please their users.
that's not just the sign of a good company, but a smart one as well.
Loyal to their customers. im grateful.

I can't wait to see (and, hopefully, share) some new themes.  I have some difficulty identifying some of the interface components that I want to change.

I recommend creating a "test theme" where you can try stuff out and see what happens. Then you do "the good stuff" with a real theme.

For example, the bright red punch button I tried stays, as do changes to the time ruler. The jury's still out on some other changes I've made...actually, I think the jury is probably hoping for a recess...

I'll leave it to the industrious artists to come up with the complete themes, and then download them . Meanwhile, just being able to make some tweaks is showing the Theme Editor's value to me.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Will there be a repository (a specific section within the Cakewalk website) where users can share their completed themes?

I do not know if Cakewalk ever plans to host user files again. There is a section in this thread dedicated to user themes.

Sad to say but I simply don't have time to change the look of SPLAT much less learn yet another bit of software.  Plus my graphic art ability is limited to stick men.  And I bet that a lot of other users are in similar boat, swamped by this and that, and having to prioritize time to get anything done.

All that said, it would be at least interesting if not useful if there was a repository where one might browse others creations to see if any were desirable.

I'm hoping that Greg is correct that there might be a Cakewalk Repository at some point to download themes and get a screen shot of them.

Did you check the thread that Skook linked to above? There are currently 4 posted with screen shots - looks like users are just getting started. Pretty impressed by the early efforts tbh.

You lucky guy! I can't even draw stick men with a ruler.

All that said, it would be at least interesting if not useful if there was a repository where one might browse others creations to see if any were desirable.

I think what might be much more doable, is to ask users to "host" their own theme downloads (heck, we've all got a couple of free GBs from Google and MS we could use to post publicly visible downloads). It would then be a simple matter of asking a mod to do yet one more task for the community and maintain a sticky with descriptions, screenshots and d/l links to the themes users want to share.

I love the idea of shared community themes and appreciate the great amount of work that goes into making a complete one. But holy smokes, what a lot of work. And then version updates as the Bakers add new content that needs to be skinned, or make subtle or not so subtle changes that would require theme updates. With SONAR updating monthly, sounds like a rabbit hole to me.

I think C.A.'s approach of doing minor tweaks to an official SONAR theme to better suit one's own visual needs is where most of us will wind up.

I'll go out on a limb here and speculate that the types of persons most inclined towards creating sharable themes and LUA scripts and such are on Reaper. Note that I do have a Reaper license and use it on an old laptop for mobile recording, so this isn't a dis. That said, one (of the many) reasons I prefer SONAR is that I DON'T have to nerd it. I wrote assembler and C professionally way back, but I made a promise to myself never to write even an Excel macro ever again. And I have someone else change the oil in my Subie.

I'd like to thank you guys as well; hopefully, quite a number of themes come out of those with a yen to customize.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

Can we now choose track strip colors in the console view?
