This reminds me of the time I almost bought a boxed set of every episode of Prisoner Cell Block H on DVD for $1000.

And then I came down off the crack.

I loved that show James

I even have a book about the series, and a 'best moments' DVD ....

You need to open up the double LP "Dance of the Lemmings" ... and take a good look!

You'll never use this one poster again!

Hey thanks Pedro, that's brilliant! I'll use it every time now.

That's the back cover ... not the inside of the LP. I did say "open up" as the inside cartoon is magnificently weird and fun!

Btw, according to one of them, that line that is added as a quote ... is really screwed up. It wouldn't appreciate a good thing if it ... oh well ... took some good acid and had a good trip! It's all a bad trip when you have no idea what it is, right?

Simply one of the most entertaining TV dramas ever. Low budget, cheap sets, often awful acting, and yet it still managed to grip my attention week after week. I loved the way it went from lighthearted japes to someone being dragged into the bathroom and hung in the space of 30 seconds. And what about The Freak! Pulling on her black leather gloves as she said "Tut tut Smith, I won't allow this insubordination" - ulp! And who could forget Lizzie Birdsworth: "*cough wheeze*....cor Mrs. M *cough wheeze*....it's me TICKA!"

And to think I only started watching it because I had a HUGE crush on Peta Toppano - the ONE AND ONLY good looking woman in the whole show! Absolutely essential watching when it was shown in the late 80's and early 90's in the UK - we used to come home from the pub early to catch it, it was that good!

I wonder if that's the same DVD I have...does it have the infamous riot episodes on it? The one where Mouse got caught in the fire and ran down the corridor burning alive? Epic drama!

By the way, did you know there was a biography of Sheila Florance (Lizzie)? I've always been in two minds whether to read it. By all accounts she was an amazing character in real life https://www.amazon.com/Sh...rtineau/dp/1514497077/

Re: Hey Pedro!! 2016/07/31 21:21:09 (permalink)
Ha my boxed set has exactly the same episodes except it has different packaging and it's called the "25th Anniversary Collectors Edition." I was walking past a discount DVD store on 14th St here in Manhattan and I caught sight of it in a bargain bin they'd put out on the street. You don't expect to see PCBH for sale in New York so I had to buy it.

Every episode has been on YouTube for years, right here: https://www.youtube.com/user/GueenBea/playlists

Fun (but weird) fact: the actress who played Mouse once tried to friend me on Facebook. I only use FB for friends and family so I ignored it, however it was intriguing to wonder how that came about.

I haven't seen the new Wentworth, to be honest I have a feeling that I would be disappointed because by the looks of things it has good production, and that to me is enough to make it feel like "just another TV show." The cheapness of the original was kind of its charm, a bit like the original Star Trek I guess!

We had a gripping prison drama on HBO called *OZ* ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118421/ ), it was dripping with homoeroticism so none of you would like it I'm sure.

So only gay people watched OZ then? I don't think so!

For the record though, Prisoner Cell Block H was always considered to have large gay following. I have no idea why though. For a drama set in a woman's prison there was hardly any lesbian content in it, I think The Freak was one of the only gay characters.

There is a film "A Woman's Tale" that is incredible, and I think it was the last thing that Sheila ever did. Paul Cox's film in insanely amazing, and her performance is incredible.

To each their own.  I don't have any pink, but someday I do want to have some in my collection.  I like dsotm, but is that the one I should get?  I also like wywh, I think that is the one I should get?  Did they ever do a greatest hits, or should I steer clear of those?

Echoes is their two CD greatest hits collection but, since many of their albums have themes, you would definitely miss out on those.

OK, thanks for the word.  I might try Echoes to see if it leads me to the other albums that are theme based.  I think first I must do some more listening on the old youtube.

The most popular album is, by far, Dark Side of the Moon but the Wall was pretty well known too (especially since they made a movie for it).  Although there are some very good songs on these, I find I'm tired of them and play them the least.  The albums prior to DSOTM (especially the first ones) are all excellent examples of 60's psychedelica with folksy pop tunes.  Meddle (two prior to DSOTM) has some great atmospheric songs and not as vocal pop.  Wish You Were Here comes right after DSOTM and shows them taking synths and progressive themes to a new level.  Animals is almost a wonderful side oddity in my opinion.  I'm also a fan of Division Bell.

There's some definite evolution (as with most good bands) but, for the most part, if you like one or two of their albums, you probably will like most or all of them.  My least favorite songs are of the spoken word variety, though most are there to tell some part of an overall story.

I am very fond of Pink Floyd's pre-DSOTM stuff - one of the first albums I ever owned as a kid was "Relics" (I made my mother buy it for me purely on the strength of the album artwork) and the songs on it just blew me away. It's a good compilation of some of their psychedelic stuff. It's worth it just for See Emily Play, a fantastic song.

Even better ... get the album "A Nice Pair" as it has a really good collection of things. Too bad you can't get the LP with all the piccies and fun stuff! In its first sending off, it also had a poster.

Hey folks, thanks for all the great recommendations.  I will investigate them all.  I do like the PF, but I just never had it in my collection.  I did listen to WYWH over the youtube last night.  It kind of inspired me.  I need to check out that "See Emily Play" tune.

Thanks again, I feel as if I may veer just a bit in another direction now.
