[Solved] MIDI note based audio effects control

I would like to control the volume envelope of an audio track based on the kick drum events in another track.
I have been searching everywhere on the internet, but the only thing I found was a description on how to achieve this using z3ta+ in Cubase.
But I would like to use my Sonar Platinum...
The result should be like in some disco productions, where it sounds like the bass drum is taking all the loudspeaker energy from the other instruments.
I tried routing all instruments except for the drums track to a bus, and wanted to add this as an audio effect, e.g. using a synthesizer (similarly to creating a vocoder).
Any ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am wondering if it would be better to use a sidechaining compressor to do this. An example of a compressor that can do this is the Prochannel PC4K-s Compressor.  That way, it's the presence of the kick drum itself, rather than a specific MIDI note number that achieves the volume reduction.
