If you can tap your toe to it, you should be able to count it; no music theory required. And it's a good skill to have, even if a tool exists to do it for you. If it's alternating two time signatures, that could get confusing, but otherwise just count toe-taps between downbeats. If you find every other downbeat hitting when your foot's up, then tap twice as fast and listen for an odd count like 7/8. If it seems like there'e a rhythm inside the basic 'toe-tapping' beat that's more than double-time, it's probably a triplet pattern.
If all else fails, post a copy of the clip somewhere, and let the forum members fight it out.
Even if the basic time signature turns out to be 4/4, the riff could have an internal rhythm that requires a special drum pattern to sound right.
If you want to practice counting weird/changing time signatures, pick up some Dave Matthews (or Frank Zappa, if you really don't value your sanity at all).
