Sonar Time Signature Question

Is there a feature in Sonar Platinum that can analyze a guitar audio clip (about 4 bars long) and then tell me what time signature it's playing at?

Of note, the guitar clip/performance does play in a regular rhythmic (picking) pattern and it's nothing way off time or even complicated, but doesn't seem to be in 4/4.

No feature as such, but you could loop it and play it back on repeat whilst you try counting it.

Yeah, I suppose I could go through a bunch of trials/errors.....not having much technical background (in music theory) isn't helping my cause.

What I was actually trying to do was to use Addictive Drums 2 with this guitar clip, but couldn't find anything that fit the time sig.

If you can tap your toe to it, you should be able to count it; no music theory required. And it's a good skill to have, even if a tool exists to do it for you. If it's alternating two time signatures, that could get confusing, but otherwise just count toe-taps between downbeats. If you find every other downbeat hitting when your foot's up, then tap twice as fast and listen for an odd count like 7/8. If it seems like there'e a rhythm inside the basic 'toe-tapping' beat that's more than double-time, it's probably a triplet pattern.

If all else fails, post a copy of the clip somewhere, and let the forum members fight it out.

Even if the basic time signature turns out to be 4/4, the riff could have an internal rhythm that requires a special drum pattern to sound right.

If you want to practice counting weird/changing time signatures, pick up some Dave Matthews (or Frank Zappa, if you really don't value your sanity at all).
