Good news.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Ironically, I just got a call from another company wanting to interview me.  When you consider in 13 months I only had two inquiries, having two interactions in two days, well...  Things must have turned around!

Look at it this way Craig:  you have a 1 in 74000 chance of being struck by lightning but a 1 in 100 chance of being born autistic.  So..let me think...If you throw a dart at a board an infinite number of times you are sure to hit it at least once?

Except I rarely miss when I play darts (and have beat three World Champions to prove it).

Lifetime Platinum here you come.

This!

I have to be good for a while so I'll probably stay where I am until I've paid back a friend I owe money to (back rent he's not expecting to get actually), helped my Mom get some hearing aids (at least one), updated some things needed for work (clothes, PC stuff) and put aside a little in case my old car dies.  Plus, I only need a little to get my own business going.

Then I can start deciding what fun things to work on!  New place to live? SONAR Lifetime? A nice I/O sound device? Maybe a Line 6 Helix (I have some music stuff left, but most is gone) and, finally, a new DAW?  Heck, I don't even have a TV anymore!

(Or I can get a new GF and not be able to afford any of the above!  )

Give it another 10 years without one and see how you feel. My guess is that you will have zero regrets. Got rid of mine in 2004 and have enjoyed a TV-free life every since, it's great! These days I stream maybe 2 or 3 shows a week on Amazon Prime, and I'm fine with watching them on my desktop.

Nah, I use TV differently than most people.  I like to have it on in the background - usually sports and mostly football (World definition AND American).

I also like to put up stuff like virtual fish tanks, nature views (and even the trite cracklin' fire in the fireplace when it's cold outside and I'm living somewhere without a real fireplace).

I miss some of the science shows and a few TV series' plus maybe a small number of movies.  I tend to avoid negative stuff (like news, politics and gossip crap).  Record most things in advance and watch when I want without commercials - that's the way to do it!

All of that said, I'm currently not really missing it too much (wait until the Olympics really get going and the EPL starts up in a couple of weeks though!).

I was also happy to find that the usual effect of "good things happening in my life makes my dart game better" was working tonight!  I subbed for a player that had to be out of town in a mixed doubles league and just killed it.  I had that wonderful feeling that I simply couldn't miss.  Our opponents were a bit demoralized (they didn't get close to winning a single game all night), but I was certainly enjoying it!

Re: The amazing may have happened! 2016/08/05 14:19:55 (permalink)
Just got my first big hurdle to overcome with the new job...  I'm getting the impression they expect me to work!

I KNEW there was a catch to this!

Damn...

On a more "real" note, they sent all the information I need to access their infrastructure as well as getting me set up with email and even business cards, but first my Outlook decides to have issues then I can't get my Comcrap internet access to provide the bandwidth we're paying for!  It's fluctuating between 2 Mbps and 0.14(!) Mbps down with almost 10 Mbps up!  I don't need to upload anything, but I should be getting over 80 Mbps down wirelessly...  Grr...

Today and this weekend I'm rushing to finish my new Windows 10 setup.  It's installed, but without any updates and with nothing else installed on it yet (the most important being Office 2016 so I can get Outlook going again!).  Then I have a few weeks worth of tutorials to skim through in a couple of days - yay.  They're ready for me to do "D," but "D" relies on "C" which relies on "B" which relies on "A" and, so far, neither "A" nor "B" nor "C" are working correctly!

Ok, enough whining for now; back to it!  I WILL have all of this working by Monday!
