So... How Did Studio One Preempt Sonar in the Marketing Aspect?

Presonus is a local company (for me).  I live in south Louisiana.   I'm wondering how their marketing department got more press for Studio One than a product that's been out since the late '80s?  And I'm a long-time Cakewalk client.  I say this because in almost all the "new" videos I watch (Slate, for example) never mention Sonar but always mention Studio One.

It's nothing new, Cakewalk seems to mostly come up late on the list of supported DAWS for various audio things.
Though I think it's very gradually changing . . . as more Sonar users spread the word, and what Cakewalk is doing in the audio world gets more attention, just a matter of time, the best things eventually rise to the top. I'm sure they could always do more marketing in the educational world, as well as to professional studios, but the history of DAWs is very set in place, all the major DAWs have previously picked their dancing partners, and it will take time to break it down and for those changes to come about . . . and, if Cakewalk can really pull of the MAC version, it's a whole new game.

Cakewalk by Bandlab, Cubase, RME Babyface Pro, Intel i7 3770K @3.5Ghz, Asus P8Z77-VPro/Thunderbolt, 32GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 250 GB OS SSD, 2TB HDD samples, Win 10 Pro 64 bit, backed up by Macrium Reflect, Novation Impulse 61 Midi Key Controller, Tannoy Active Near Field Monitors, Guitars by Vantage, Gibson, Yamaki and Ovation.

Presonus as you know doesn't just make Studio One.  They are deep in the entry level interfaces and have a strong presence there as well as they have made a big impact on the Digital Mixer market.

Other sources of revenue to support that marketing, not to mention cross platform compatibility which makers of plugins trying to sell their product to every consumer certainly pay attention to as they market their products.

A company that runs a demo of their product in a DAW is less likely to want to give any connotation that their product is even by chance only compatible with Windows or Mac only.  Thus why you will see more of that kind of placement using Ableton, Studio One, ProTools, etc.

Samplitude scrapped their mac version.  Here's to hoping that Cakewalk sees this through to completion.

When Magix/Samplitude scrapped the mac version, I knew that was the beginning of the end.  While its a good DAW, the rate of changes seemed much less than other DAWs, it seems they are spending little on development, content to let it fade into oblivion.

I think that's a fair assessment. I've been telling people that no, they won't be able to replace Pro Tools by Christmas.

The NAMM presentation by Celemony is the only place I heard SONAR mentioned first, and then Studio One as an afterthought. That was a good sign of which company came to mind first when he was speaking.

Another marketing focus for PreSonus is Studio One Prime, which is functional albeit dumbed down. Once users are set in a work flow, they are unlikely to jump ship, so a permanent "does some things okay" is more likely to get a buyer. Many hobbyists might only get a few days of a 30-day trial to assess things, and with a DAW it will come down to learning the application intimately.

The entry level Studio One that ships free with products can't load any VSTs.  From there, the upgrade prices are pretty steep.

For the Mac, I was sad about Magix not seeing that one through ....

I'm a little PO'ed that when I was running Samplitude Pro X 2 in Win 8 64 ....it ran absolutely fantastic
The moment I upgraded to Win 10 64 H E  Samplitude Pro X 2  has run like $hit on the machine it ran great on in Win 8 ...
The same goes for my other Win 10 64 computer ....the OS it came with was Win 10 64 H S ...
Samp runs about as good on that as a lazy a$$ed 3 legged tripod dog wearing clogs ..
I'm not happy about it and I feel like I got burnt ....the idea that I may need to find a Win 8 machine is not an option for me right now

I certainly have no doubt that Cakewalk was so ahead of the loop as far as optimizing SONAR for Win 10 ...
I'm happy about that for sure ...
I honestly don't think Magix has done a whole lot ( to my knowledge ) to even have put half the effort Cakewalk has already put into optimizing SONAR for Win 10 .....for Samp to run correctly in Win 10 .....

I wish I could be proven wrong on that one ....

re slate:: didn't they make the embedded console modelling that is baked into presonus? that would explain why slate mentions presonus

This is way more truth than it seems.. I still don't have enough spare time to dig into Sonar.. I have never caught up since X came out.
I downloaded the free ( trail?)  version of Studio 1 and only spent a few hours with it. so I have no clue if it is better or worse and have not opened it in months. When I open a DAW I want to start work, not sit there figuring it out and exploring every feature. 90% of SOnars features I've only become aware of because I read this forum every day at coffee.

Studio One is cross-platform. I got into Studio One after I bought my Mac Book Pro laptop (I'm a PC desktop, Mac laptop kinda guy, and that's how I roll, deal with it :)) and was looking for a portable DAW solution. There's obviously no Sonar on Mac (yet), and I hate Pro Tools with a passion, so Studio One won out (It also helped that I won a copy of Studio One at a NAMM show clinic contest :)). Also keep in mind that Studio One was developed by the original folks who designed Cubase (and left Steinberg after Yamaha took over) and won some converts from the Cubase world, as well as people who were fed up with Pro Tools and (Apple-era) Logic.
