Is Cakewalk ok?
Not too long ago I was a bit hesitant in buying the lifetime update. I was put at ease and decided on the next paycheck I would make the purchase. Right before the purchase I had a question about the discount for a recent upgrade....no response. Contacted them again......and again.....no response. Sent a Private Message on the forum, no response. Now I am reading all the posts that no one is getting a response. The phone support appears to be gone as well. Does anyone have any insight (something I may have missed in the posts)? I was ready for the update but now I am worried again. I don't want to miss out on the update but I don't want the company to be gone in a month after I purchase. And honestly, more importantly, I don't want them to go under. I love Cakewalk and have been using it for 15 years or more. I am sure there are a million guesses but, does anyone know for sure what is going on? Maybe I should quit worrying about it and buy the update in the hopes that they are on the verge of throwing in the towel and every update gives them a shot at staying in the game. I hope all is well.

they just hired (in the process of hiring) new bodies for support. that's what I have read here in the forums. I have never known cakewalk to be anything but loyal to its users. this hasn't changed in years. to be perfectly honest, I've always felt cakewalk has been lack on support through they years so to me its nothing new . I believe they put most of their resources and man power towards making a great product. and...well they have yet to fail me so far, so I cant complain. I believe a lot of the posts you might be reading are some of the same users disgruntled by a few ignored support tickets. don't get me wrong, one ignored ticket is enough, but some of the reasons I've heard for not responding quick enough is they prioritize support tickets. billing and registration tickets take precedence over "Why doesn't this work right" ? I don't like it either but cakewalk isn't going anywhere. they have too much invested in the product and too much invested in their user base. good luck Chuck

I don't know what version of SONAR your on .. All you have to do is log in to your Cakewalk account and hit the buy button for SONAR and your adjusted price for The Life Time deal will be there ... If you need more info and answers to feel comfortable you still have until August 31 st ...to pull the trigger Kenny

Cakewalk is doing great. Support...not so great right now, but I've been following what's going on. They're hiring more people so help is on the way after they're trained. There are definitely people with legitimate issues that need to be addressed, but I've also gotten PMs from people venting about support and what they're asking about is more along "how to" lines. Cakewalk's support isn't really intended to teach people how to mix, or how to use Matrix view, or whatever; it's intended for people who are having problems with the program itself.

Gibson killed Cakewalk. (I'll assume for fun that your question was genuine interest and not a snarky, low, underhanded way to take a dig at a former Gibson manager and Cakewalk uber-user who contributed immensely to the Cakewalk community). Also, FWIW the same process also sank Craig.

Grow up, you are not the only one who lost out. Lifetime updates was the same price as a years worth of updates. We got 15 months.
You're assuming everyone bought the Lifetime plan the same day you did.

I've touched on this elsewhere, and that's enough. I realize people would like a nice, simple answer, but there were multiple factors. I will always think that if my proposed solutions had not been ignored Cakewalk would still be around, but it's just as possible that what I thought were solutions would have sunk Cakewalk faster.

Okay.. 12 months. does that make a difference ? A years worth of updates were the same price as Lifetime updates. No one lost money. Cakewalk simply didn't hold up their end of the bargain. Unless of course you can explain your theory ? I'd love to hear it.

The way I see it, is that I got almost 3 years of updates for one payment of "Lifetime Splat" (@AudioDeluxe = $168.99). I was still sitting on Sonar X3 Producer since upgrade in December 2014 (it was at end of development then). So at the Platinum lifetime upgrade time in August 2016, I got all of the rolled up new features in Platinum released since 2015. That was huge!!! Then I got all remaining monthly Platinum updates until October 2017. Not too bad, if you look at the big picture!!! Of course, I am heartbroken that the product that I started out with 20 years ago, and has been with me for two decades, is no longer being supported and developed. I had assumed that Cakewalk would be around for years to come... so I am sorry to see them go ... but no, I don't feel ripped off in the least!!!

When I decided to order Sonar Pro in the summer of 2016, I had issues with the upgrade discount, so I tried to call. NOTHING. Their customer support was not even there. I tried emailing, no response whatsoever. Fortunately I managed to get the upgrade discount to be applied through the web, but I found that very disconcerting! If I hadn't been a 20+ year user, I prob would have taken that as a sign not to do business with them.

chuckebabyA years worth of updates were the same price as Lifetime updates. No one lost money. You forget people like me who bought lifetime updates few months after buying another year of updates. And no, I didn't get the best discount for the lifetime pass either, I contacted them and they said what I was offered was best they could give, even there were some users getting way better deal for it. But lesson learned, never pay more than one month in advance for anything in this world. You can't trust anyone, not even industry veterans like proven here. I've bought two lifetime licenses so far for sw, both let me down and I felt scammed on both occasions. I do have some sw that have given all upgrades for free so far but those haven't been marketed with free updates.

I bought lifetime updates on the very last day of the offer, 31st December last year, so I got less than a year, but more important than the money or one month I missed out on to complete a year, is the fact that Cakewalk has gone, the staff got the boot just before the holiday season, and Sonar is a dead DAW. That just makes me want to weep.
Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

You don't need me to explain, it's proven by your own math skills 1 year does not equate to 15 months. Read the posts by several others here as well.. Not everyone got a great deal at all.. Oh & btw there was also that May promo campaign selling upgrades.. I guess you think that was a great deal & no-one lost money on that as well. So there's my theory you'd Love to hear, also known as fact.

You are not the only ones who lost money. But what are we going to do ? Beat a dead horse ? Cry about how bad we got ripped off from the software company that just closed down ? Ya, I guess I probably shouldn't have posted here. My apology's. To be honest, I just want the off line authorization for the software that's mine. I could care less about the "I got ripped off" conversation. I've got better things to do than moan and complain.
