Pro Channel

Strangely...a thought occured to me!

How affective is the pro channel on vocals for warmth?
If anyone uses Pro Channel for vocals please let me know what results you have had with it.

What is your go to plug in for nice soft warm vocals?

Well its not Pro channel its what you put in it that matters. The same question would apply to the Effects Bin.

okay so it would work in tandem? Just been experimenting with it and it kind of works with effects so I do get your point. Would you use it on a vocal yourself John?

You be the judge.  The link is in my signature.  All the vocals were done with PC and my go to plug in is the CA-2A compressor.

    All the best,

Dude (and/or dudette). The ProChannel is simply an effects chain. It needs to be set up before it does anything specific.

However if you want to see some standard vocal chains using the PC just click on the "Load" button in the Prochannel preset area and navigate to/load some of the Vocal presets that ship with Sonar.

There isn't many though (just checked) but I'm sure some folks will come along with descriptions of their own chains.

I just make my own for whatever I need.

    Cheers.

Lynn sounds very nice and clean I have been testing it out and I think I will be using it for now with a waves plug in sounds really nice.

I think I will be trying it with a few other processes of mixing. Beepster I will have a browse around and see what is to my liking.

Similar to Lynn, I also have my go to Plug in (I think most of us do/creatures of habit/why change what works great)
I drop in the Waves PuigChild in the FX bin, tailor the QC EQ to your liking (got some great notch filtering ability's)
then add either Breverb or RE Matrix for a touch of ambience and the magic happens.

    Pro Channel
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=ProChannel.01.html

The PuigChild in my opinion really is superior over the PC compressor, that's of course not to say the PC76 is not a good compressor, I just find the Puigchild to really liv'in up vocals. gives it a warmth crisp sound that jumps out in the mix vs. having to find bringhtness and crispness elsewhere.
also a bit of Softubes saturation knob gives it a growl as well.

I'll also 1+ Lynn- check out the song in my signature, it was just posted recently using the PuigChild/Pro Channel arrangement described above. you can hear the warmth in the vocals.

When you find something that works, stick with it, but don't ever stop trying new ideas.
that's the only way you'll expand and learn.

Craig Anderton came up with a bunch of effects chains but you have to install from command center.

The PC channel has some good plugs.  The 1176 is a good emulation, while the CA2a is an outstanding plug.  The PC EQ is another great plug that works on just about any source.  Finally, the best of the PC bunch is the SSL Buss comp, which is really magic on, well, buss groups.  None of them are as good as the hardware, in my opinion, but then none of the other plugins are either. They all work fine.
