Several iLok plugins not launching
WTF?
This is what I get when I try to use Soundtoys, Blackhole (Eventide), AutoTheory (MozaicBeats) or Loom (AIR):
"Blackhole could not be loaded. Please contact the software publisher for support using this software.
Error details:
Relation query was attempted when disallowed."
Well, WTBF? Could it be that this is only AU related?

Ugh, unfortunately there seems to be a widespread iLok snafu happening right now. See this KVR thread for more info. I got hit by this after installing the demo for Zynaptiq Adaptiverb. Many others experienced major problems after doing so, but in my case it only resulted in my Softube plugins no longer working. Weird. Best not to do any iLok auths or moves until this is sorted out. Have you checked iLok manager is running? Since a recent windows update, mine does not start automatically every time now - and I have changed from automatic to delayed start - no difference.
So I now just start manually every time I start the Computer.

Thanks, Nigel, for looking at this. Apparently it's something else. There are some posts in other forums about this. And they're always talking about the same plugins. Should be iLok related though. See for instance here: http://community.airmusic...lugins-in-ableton-live

BTW, I need to remember not to install newly-released software until it's been out in the field for a while. Even demos from respectable developers.

That couldn't be the reason, Eddie. I only deactivated UltraChannel from one location to activate at another. That, and changing my iLok account password. Those were the only things I did and next all of Soundtoys, Blackhole, Loom and AutoTheory were out of reach. Those had been installed for months at least. Edith: worst of all, it indeed freezes whatever application you're using, your DAW or even Ozone 7 Advanced.

The problem isn't limited to the Zynaptiq demo, it seems. I'm reminded of the "iLokalypse" debacle of three years ago. During these episodes, doing anything iLok-related - authorizations, license moves, etc. -- can spell doom. It could be days or weeks before it's all settled, unfortunately, and I don't expect PACE to be forthcoming about what's being done to rectify things. Sorry for the gloomy assessment, but I've seen this movie before.
I have and use many iLok-protected plugins, but I do wish iLok wasn't a thing we had to worry about. Never a good situation when so many products share a single point of failure.
If I were a dev who relied on iLok copy protection, I'd be livid (again). They're the ones who'll be fielding support calls from angry customers. I should note that the Zynaptiq guy has been on the case, doing whatever he can to help. But the problem appears to be out of his control, unfortunately. Sigh.

Exactly. Every user is told to contact developers, wich will make them cringe since they're not to blame. Might even convince them to develop an alternative and abandon iLok entirely.

It does appear that HD-based systems are bearing the brunt of the problems, but physical iLok users are having troubles as well (including me). I would strongly advise anyone NOT to do anything involving iLok licenses until the coast is clear. Cheers, Eddie

Bhajan Blue has the probably answer. Pain in the chalumbas, but Ilock doesn't start with boot, and you are up the creek without a paddle unless you manually start the "service" (and I use the term service with some contempt. They ain't serving you or your family.).
Depending on the OS, several steps are required either going thru the task manager or Administrative something from the control panel. Start the service before opening DAW and everything should work, maybe. Plug and Pray.
Know this ain't popular advice, but I ended all my grief with a Warez crack, after paying full asking price to the companies for their products. Time and effort spent begging Ilock to allow another activation after it was dumped. Then time spent with the company trying to convince them that I'm not a thief. I just want to use the damned plugin, not be treated like a criminal.
Sad, but the fix is a couple mouse clicks away in the underground. Ilock gets my middle finger. Company gets my money for morally purchased software. They are happy, I'm happy.
Do not condone stealing software, and all my plugs are fully paid for. Can sleep free at night over this.
No Ilock problems here however.

The problem I see just happened today when I bought ADAPTIVERB. When I upgraded my desktop and laptop to Windows 10 pro Anniversary edition a week ago I went through all the authorization softwares - iLok, XLN, etc. They all worked yesterday. I installed Adaptiverb on my desktop and now Falcon and Blackhole both fail the same way. But they work on my laptop which does not have Adaptiverb. The iLok software is up-to-date and the Pace services are running. The failure I see is this:

I managed to get them to work now.
Here is what I did:
1) Open iLok License Manager
2) Deactivate all licenses
3) Start Sonar
4) Load one plug-in. When the Plug-in Activation window appears go to the iLok manager and activate that license.
5) Now the plug-in works.
6) Repeat for each plug-in.

And here is possibly the most telling thing of this whole saga. There is not a single mention of this on the iLok site. No heads up. No FYI. No nothing. What a great company. Who owns this POS anyway? Does anyone have their direct email?? (And I'm a user who heretofore has had no real problem with the iLok concept)

I particularly dislike the fact that this month's iLokalypse affects machine activations more than dongles, as I was somewhat happy with more and more developers taking that route. Sorry John, but you are not really giving iLok the finger with the "buy legit, use the crack" strategy. When you buy a legitimate copy some of that money is going to Pace.
If you really want to end iLok you need to stop supporting vendors who use it. And let them know why.

Always worth a re post.
The closest thing to that is iLok. But the problem with a system like that is that it gives the most important control of your product to another company...and you have to go along with their way of doing things, even if that's NOT the way you want to do business. Not only that, but if something happens to that company or that system, then it affects everybody...hundreds of products and hundreds of thousands of users! The concept of paying for a system like that, when we can do a better job of it in-house is extremely distasteful to me.
It's weird....we lose some sales to Pro Tools users because we don't use iLok and they prefer to have a dongle. But if we did, there are many thousands more of our users that would hate going to a dongle system. (and offering both dongle and dongless methods just complicates things, providing less reliability, more tech support and less security as well).
I just would never trust another company (especially PACE) with such a valuable and key part of my business and how I interact with my customers. Eric Pershing, Founder of Spectrasonics.
