e-Toccata

A toccata (from toccare, meaning "to touch") was a 16th-17th century form designed to show off virtuostic keyboard writing and playing.  My e-Toccata is the digital version (and stylistically modern) of same.

Created in Sonar using Pianoteq's physical modeling virtual piano.
Enjoy!

really enjoyed it!  Did you compose this recently?  I'm always curious whether composers actually play the pieces they create, or whether they write them for others to play.  Was this for yourself or for someone else?  I heard  some gershwin harmonies sprinkled in there.  I'm glad I got to hear this.

I finished writing and producing it this afternoon.  It's not possible for one keyboard player to play this piece as it is written, there are interval gaps too wide for the human hand to play and in some measures there are more notes than one player could play.  Two players could handle it, but the piece is really conceived for computer-based instruments, hence the name "e-Toccata".

    Very well done indeed!!

Can we look forward to an e-Fugue to go with it?

Probably not for this set, I feel an urge to write a slow, more chordal work for piano, but who knows, once the piece gets going, there very well might be fugal elements.

great work!  sounds like something Keith Emerson (the master) would write!  lots of interesting tempo changes.  Does sound  midi-ish in 'feel' but still a fun listen.

Very nice...   I do agree with mikeinFL on this one - it's got an Emerson vibe too it.   And that is certainly a compliment!
