Amplitube Mono/Stereo Question

Hey all,
 
Can some please enlighten me on the proper use of the mono/stereo functions of Amplitube? I'm using Amplitube 3.
 
All my guitar tracks are mono tracks. So am I supposed to be using ONLY the mono input on Amplitube? Is the stereo function only for stereo guitar tracks?
 
I've read the manual, but there's not much explanation of the actual results of using the different inputs, and the "when's and why's" of using each input. I mostly only use a one amp setup, but I'm very interested in expanding my horizons a bit and taking advantage of the two-amp setup. Can this be done with mono tracks?
 
Any guidance, or just general "rules" would be greatly appreciated. I just wanna get the most out of this awesome plug!

Yes there are different routing configurations available on the top left corner of the window. For mono tracks you would choose a mono configuration. If you're recording a stereo guitar track you have the option of choosing a stereo configuration which allows you to set up a different amp and cab for right and left channels.

Thanks Sharke. I've been at this for a couple years now, but still haven't really grasped the reason why some people record mono guitar tracks and others do stereo tracks. In tutorial vids, screenshots, etc., I see some stereo and some mono. So I'm just a little unclear on this aspect.
 
If you don't mind, can you explain the pro's and con's of each?
 
It seems that most FX are stereo (chorus, delays, etc), with just a few mono FX. Am I missing out on something using exclusively mono tracks?
 
On a side note, I dug your post about the Smiths the other day. One my favorite bands. Looking forward to reading Johnny Marr's auto-bio when it comes out in the Fall.

Stereo is no different for guitar tracks than other tracks really - it just depends on whether you want the track to sound like it's coming from a single point or whether you want it to give the illusion of width. Like fjz says, there are stereo effects available like ping pong delays, stereo chorus, stereo flangers etc, all of which create width. 
 
Sometimes you'll come across a track that's stereo (i.e. has a left and right side) but which still sounds mono - all this means is that both the right side and left side are the same. 
 
You can still create a stereo effect from a mono track, by sending some of it to a stereo bus with a stereo effect on it. 
 
The best thing to do would just be to experiment with some of the stereo configurations in Amplitude and see for yourself how they sound. For instance, having a different amp/cab setup on both left and right channels, but having the same guitar signal go to each channel, will create a stereo effect because each amp setup will sound different. It's the differences between left and right that create a stereo effect. The greater the difference, the wider the sound. For instance if you had the exact same amp/cab on both the left and right channels, but made the amp and mic settings different on each channel, you'd get some kind of stereo effect. But it wouldn't be as strong as if you had totally different amps/cabs on each channel, or if you had two different guitar parts on each channel. The closer each channel sound, the narrower the sound will be.
