Is there a way to program notes on a specific midi keyboard to trigger Matrix cells?

I recently started playing around with the Matrix view in Sonar Plat.  It's pretty cool.  I want to be able to trigger cells from my Akai LPX 25 mini keyboard but it seems that whatever note I program with midi learn will be triggered by any of my other keyboards.  I tried using midi channels with no success.  Is there a way to program the Matrix to work with a specific keyboard/controller?   I was able to program specific buttons on my Alesis midi controller, but the number of buttons I can use for that is limited.  What do others here use for triggering Matrix cells?

See Page 2124 of the manual.

    To trigger a cell
    Do one of the following:
    Click the desired cell.
Use the ARROW keys on your computer keyboard to navigate to the desired cell, then press ENTER.
If the cell has been assigned to a MIDI event, press the appropriate key, pad or button on your MIDI
controller. For details, see “To trigger a cell or column via MIDI remote control” on page 2126.
After the cell has been triggered, the cell blinks until the Trigger Resolution is reached, at which time
    playback starts.
The global Cell Start toggle determines if the pattern will play from the beginning of the pattern or synchronize
to the project’s Now time. In Always from Beginning mode , patterns always start from the beginning. In
Offset to Now Time mode , patterns synchronize to the project’s Now time.
During playback, the cell displays a “play” icon and a circular progress indicator to show the position of the loop as
it is playing. Patterns repeat themselves until you stop playback or until another pattern in the same row starts to
play (non-looped content play as one-shots, meaning the patterns play only once).
    See also:
“To use a per-cell trigger resolution” on page 2125
“To trigger a cell or column via MIDI remote control” on page 2126
Tip: To trigger a cell using the opposite mode of the current Cell Start setting, hold down the ALT key when you trigger a cell.

Thanks for the reply.    I am not at my DAW to see if the manual instructions will have any different result.  I already have the cell being triggered by a note from the Akai mini keyboard programed by using midi learn.  But, that same note when played on my Motif, or Berhinger keyboard will also trigger the cell and I don't want it to trigger from anything but the Akai.  I'll get back to my DAW tomorrow and see if the instructions have a different result.  Thanks!

I don't think they will. If you are using notes to trigger from a keyboard; to Sonar a note is a note it doesn't matter where it comes from.

That's what I thought.  Would've been nice to be able to do it. Looks like I might need to get a midi controller with bunch of buttons such as an Abletron Live performance controller.  Thanks John.

You are correct.  Try using different note ranges.  If you can shift one keyboard an octave or two above or below the other.  You can use that keyboard for the Matrix trigger notes only, as long as they are out of range of the keyboard you play your instrument tracks with.

Then use the MIDI learn from controller that sends notes your instrument will not respond to.

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

Hey, that's a good suggestion!   I think that will work.  Thanks!
