Another pops and clicks thread...

Hi,
Recently invested in a new PC with the specs in my signature. I'm running Sonar Platinum and was very exited to record at 96Khz/24bit. Now I'm experiencing pops and clicks with only 4 audio tracks and a single Midi track(Sessiondrummer).
I've put on some compressor plugins and eq, but dammit, I thought I had a machine now that wouldn't give me those problems.

Still it might just be som adjustments in the preferences tab, but from here I really havent't got the clue on what my settings should be.

I'm running trough a Motu 896Mk3 Firewire card and use the ASIO drivers, but maybe I should try some other drivers?
I've deactivated windows sounds, internet and many other things, but it still doesn't seem to help.

Any ideas someone would be highly appreciated.

Well, I see your Firewire card uses a TI chipset, so that shouldn't be a problem. Start by checking your DPC Latency:

increase buffer of ASIO driver (outside of Sonar most likely), I'm pretty sure it'll fix the problem ;)

Wouldn't increasing this also increase the audio and midi latency?

Question - do the dropouts go away when you temporarily Bypass All Effects?
(the letter 'E' on your computer keyboard toggles all effects on/off, so see what happens with the dropouts with the effects bypassed).

IF the issues go away, that is an indication that one or more of your project's loaded effects are the ones causing the dropouts.  This usually is due to someone loading one or more effects that are really meant for use during mixing/mastering, and not during tracking/recording.

So, in addition to trying a test with the above, can you please list the loaded effects for this project? (by the way, after testing with the effects bypassed, you can hit the letter 'E' again to toggle the effects back on, afterwards).

Yes, raising the ASIO buffer will increase latency, and with your hardware spec it shouldn't be necessary for such a light project. If it helps, it's probably because DPC latency is too high and the root cause of that should be addressed.

If DPC is high/spiking, I'd start by disabling WiFi and Bluetooth adapters in BIOS. You'll also want to disable Turboboost, Speedstep and C-states to make sure the CPU is not being throttled.
