Careful, myself and some others have broken S1s after applying the update. Something about Melodyne integration. The powers that be are aware, so I'd advise playing safe and waiting for a fix.

I furthest from being a Cakewalk fanboy but it seems off the DAWs I have of late, Sonar's updates are the most impressive. My Studio One seems to be hanging on my Aria integration, crashed on the manual update as well. I still use Melodyne whatever version 2 (the $150 version) and don't care to upgrade. Others report the same buyer beware!

Ok this is a s1v3 vs splat question. Is s1 more stable? I have been experiencing crashes with splat and thinking of getting s1. But I heard s1 midi editing is less powerful than splat? Can I get some feedback from those of you who uses both? I am a 95% midi and softsynth kind of user.

I use Studio One occasionally for audio-only projects; its MIDI implementation is a very poor second to Sonar's in my opinion, for example if you use outboard synths and drum machines - there is no instrument definitions facility for example, enabling you to select patched from inside the software. I find it slick and fun to use for audio only projects though. Stability is a difficult one. That can depend very much on other aspects of each user's setup. In my case, thinking about the last few months, I've had more inexplicable crashes with Sonar than Studio One, in fact I can't really remember when I last had one with S1.

Presonus, on their site, acknowledged there is a problem with those who have Melodyne 2x. They go on to say though that the "Essential" version which came with Studio 1 can be updated to Essential 4 from the Celemony site -for free- and that should fix issue. Those who upgraded to Melodyne 2 "Editor" will have to wait a few days for a maintenance fix.

Good to know, thanks. Of course, those of us with the latest version of either S1 or Sonar Plat have a license for Essentials 4, so it wouldn't make sense to still be on Melodyne 2 anyway. (The exception being, like kitekrazy, you upgraded to Editor or Studio).

I find S1 extremely stable on my Windows 10 64 system. Has been for years. I am running Melodyne 4 Studio 64 and have not had any issues with it on S1 v3.2 or v3.3. I have no outboard midi instruments so I do not have a need to support them thru any DAW. Midi editing has not been an issue for me because all of the tools I really need are there. I like to use both DAWS depending on what I feel like doing. I am a lifer with Sonar and have used it for many years as well. S1 is very good at audio editing and I use the Project feature a lot for mastering and sequencing songs.

Thanks to those have drawn attention to a possible glitch in the 3.3.0 type update. It may be good to wait for the next patch or two. These very first ones are usually fine for me but this looks like it needs a patch to follow on. I am in between projects but about to do a series of mixes that use Melodyne. I am using it a lot in this situation. It may be fine too but sounds like some are having some issues. With booting up and getting stuck on the Melodyne part of the boot up. There may also be issues with Notion integration being fine tuned as well. But they have offered it at a great price to current Studio One Pro users. For around $50 US instead of the higher price. It looks impressive. Should keep the notation users pretty happy I would imagine. I have a large external midi hardware setup and also use a lot of virtual instruments. The midi side of Studio One is excellent and it well more advanced than many realise. The Groove 3 videos on Midi editing really highlight this. The latest update has added in some interesting midi editing options regarding velocity. As well as notation on a grand scale. Timing wise it seems excellent and I am getting excellent midi timing in record and playback. I am having no issues completing large external midi sequences and producing music that involves a lot of external as well as internal production. The midi timing is very independent of the audio clock too. You can jump midi tracks on the fly in record while looping as well making tracking interesting. Something you cannot do with other DAW’s currently. In response to abacab's question. It is simply a bit hard to explain. The only thing I can suggest is visit the site and watch some videos of various parts of Studio One in action and see how you might like it. Workflows vary and many DAW's arrive at a similar result but do different things along the way to get there. Those differences appeal to some people but also may not be liked in others.

I have a question regarding Studio One. I am trying to nudge a friend who is a guitarist/songwriter to try out the DAW thing. He is attempting to produce a demo CD on an old school hard disk multi-track recorder (Boss, I think?). Bless him because that thing intimidates me, LOL!!! But he is apparently allergic to computers ... So anyway, I recently downloaded the Studio One 3 Free edition to see if I could prepare a tutorial for DAW 101 with a free DAW for him. Hard to believe S1 is free. Good stuff! Wish this had been available when I was starting out! I am a Sonar lifer, so I am not interested in switching DAWs at this point. But I am curious about what workflow advantages that there may be in S1. I also have Reaper, which appears completely functional, but the aesthetics of the GUI leave something to be desired. S1 is nice to look at, and the bundled Presence sampler library is a nice touch. So do you find any workflow possible between Sonar and S1, or is it simply a matter of doing an entire project within one or the other?

It happens with Melodyne 4 also. I have the full blown M4 Studio. Presonus are working on the issue. BTW, the only way to successfully roll back is to uninstall 3.3 completely using Windows Control Panel and reinstall the previous version 3.2.3.

Rare to have issue with Melodyne 4. Melodyne 2 is the problem. $99 to upgrade software I rarely use to a DAW I rarely use won't cut it. I've only used it for audio to midi conversion. Lives conversion is an equal to Melodyne.

After the first install into a new folder for me the program was missing a file and it failed to open. It instructed me to reinstall into the new folder again and all was fine then. Both versions open up nicely. So far everything works as planned for me. I will be checking it pretty hard today though. I am only running the 64 bit version on my main machine.

He's done some Studio One Prime videos, here are a couple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7kgCKTcCNI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW1Dy4Hq63w Note that the last linked vid is one of a four-part series.
kitekrazy1 Have him try Mixcraft.
Thanks for the suggestions guys! I have watched the videos, done some digging around in Prime, and learned a few things. There are a few cool features I would like to see make their way over to Sonar. Some of the MIDI stuff as well as the arranger track and scratchpad. Sonar is a great recording studio and synth rack, but it could stand to be a little friendlier for songwriting and arranging ... Probably the coolest thing I found in Studio One Prime is that you can explode a MIDI drum track into separate tracks by pitch, resulting in each piece of the drum kit on it's own track. The Prime version unfortunately will not let you use your own VST's, so you need to upgrade to Professional to try that. Mixcraft does looks like a good option for my friend. Anybody aware of a bundle deal with an audio interface?

Unfortunately, you just missed a great deal from JRRshop (Not a bundle deal, but the DAW price was heavily discounted). Currently, Mixcraft 7 Standard costs about $70, and your friend will need another $100 minimum for a decent audio interface. There are a ton of choices at $100: Steinberg UR12, Focusrite Scarlett Solo, and the Presonus Audiobox to name a few. If your friend goes for the Steinberg UR12, it comes with Cubase AI bundled. It's a cut-down version of Cubase with 32 audio and 48 MIDI tracks (which, quite honestly, should be more than enough for most people -- especially if they're just starting out). Also, unlike a lot of other bundled DAW software, Cubase AI supports 3rd party VSTs! Of course, if he's decided on Mixcraft 7, then he can either wait for a sale, or as mentioned earlier, will need to pony up at least $170 (MC7 + audio interface) to get started right away.
SonarPlat/CWbBL, Win 10 Pro, i7 2600K, Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, 16GB DDR3, Radeon HD5450, TC Electronic Impact Twin, Kawai MP11 Piano, Event ALP Monitors, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Too Many Plugins, My lucky hat.
