The almost - a - VCA technique

So I've been mixing a bit with Cubase and loved the VCA implementation.
I found that I can have the same functionality in Sonar, at least when it comes to the volume fader.
That's how I do it - let's say we are working on a drum take
 

• Create a new audio track and call it VCA drums
• Select all the drum tracks plus the VCA drums track. It's better if all the tracks are at 0db
• Right click on the fader cap and assign all the tracks to a group.
• Right click on the fader again and select group manager
• Make sure to select the "Relative" option. Now all the tracks move together
• When you're mixing, remember to move the faders while pressing CTRL. That way you'll temporarily override the group assignment

Hey Jordan. This was discussed a while back with regard to Studio One et al. You are quite right - with grouping (and offset mode if automation is involved), Sonar as had "VCA-like" functionality for a very long time. You do not necessarily need to create the extra track, but nice touch:)

I hope Cakewalk will expand group functionality soon.
 
For example - being able to assign tracks to multiple groups, and then select what group you want active at any given time, as Pro Tools allows.
