Hurricane Hermine
Parts of Hermine has been visiting us here in FL and last evening while driving back from class (around 9pm), my phone & the radio issued a tornado warning stating to take cover/find shelter etc... I was about 45 min from home, on a rural road (farm/country side road) without street lights, in heavy rain, and I can tell you it was a bit unnerving. With all that rain coming down, in no way I'd have seen a tornado.....until it was too late. Thankfully, I made it home safely. Some people weren't that lucky though, and had their roofs blown off and/or other damages. Interestingly, the insurance companies immediately come to the homes (at night) to survey the damage. In some counties, the schools have shut down today while in others, it's business as usual. So far, it's just been a LOT of rain everywhere......as long as it's not tornadoes or hurricanes going through here, I think we should be ok.

From what I saw on the news this morning, it looks like quite a mess. Good luck!

I think after today, the damage causing effects should be over with......after that it should only be a tropical storm. Yep, I'm taking cover......not going tornado chasing anytime soon. Ironically, a lady that had her roof blown over.......her son had gone to Tampa to chase tornadoes.

Often wondered, how much is insurance cover for hurricane damage in a hurricane hot-spot? An equivalent thing here in the UK was that some insurance companies would not cover you for flood (or put the premium sky high) if you had been flooded previously.

In the coastal areas of Florida, the insurance premiums are very high and it's also mandatory to have it. Plus, there's all kinds of treatments to the home that HAVE to be done before you're even accepted to be covered. Me thinks Ins. Co.'s should be giving much more breaks in premiums to these folks (seeing it's mandatory) as they're the ones who will need the most help when there's damage, but, when you have money being the driving force.....

The insurance companies react quickly to make sure you don't realize your home is a total loss and light it on fire (to make it a covered event), because hurricane damage usually isn't covered under for other reasons.

Be safe Mesh! A hurricane is a hurricane no matter what number put on it. I've been through 11 of them and they are all bad. P.S. - clean up goes on here and will for a very long time
