bitman It grabs and steals effects just because I dared drag 'em there.
Sounds like you're still on X3 or an early version of 2015. Some people didn't like the behavior either, so the Bakers kindly changed it at some point last year. Dragging effects to the MultiDock area no longer docks them. When you do want to dock them, hold down CTRL.
YES!! THIS!!!! GUIZ!!!! They got rid of the annoying auto dock stuff sometime last year! Instead of having to hold Ctrl to AVOID docking a floating window you now have to hold Ctrl to DOCK the floating window. It confused the farts out of me at first until I realized the change and I think it's awesome now. I used to hate to be careful where I dragged stuff lest it get sucked into the dock. Now it doesn't happen unless I go OUT OF MY WAY to make it happen (by holding Ctrl). I'm actually surprised at some of the posters here who haven't noticed this. I figured I was more out of date than most of you guys (Manchester... still, finishing some projects). Anyhoo... it really was one of those ultra simple changes that made my single screen workflow MUCH easier. The Dock itself is brilliant for single screen users as well. "D" is one of the keybindings I have completely ingrained in my muscle memory where I can have my eyes completely closed and engage it from anywhere I'm sitting in the room within arm's reach. Along with Ctrl + Z Ctrl + Shift + Z Ctrl + A Ctrl + Shift + A Spacebar (of course) and on the days when I'm FINALLY done being a knob biting, OCD wanker... R (the most loveliest and exhilarating of all the keybindings) ;-)
'R' is too far of a reach for me, so I got a FaderPort

John Pre X1 there was a proto multi dock. It just wasn't as developed as the new version.

I dock the console view all the time. J www.jerrygerber.com

The Multi-Dock is one of Sonar's best features. Take some time and learn how to use it, you'll probably change your mind.. Jerry www.jerrygerber.com

All of Sonar Platinum will take some time to get accustom to but it really is worth the time.

I like the multidoc and the keyboard shortcut D. But is there a keyboard shortcut to tab between screens within the multidoc?

It can be done using... Ctrl + Shift + Tab and navigating with the left/right arrows. Had to experiment to remember it but I knew it was there somewhere. Bit of an awkward keybinding but I'm sure it can be changed in Prefs. Cheers!

You can also make your own keybindings to tab between MultiDock screens: Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts>Global Bindings: Previous Tab and Next Tab.

bitman I just like good old MDI I guess. Sorry to be such a pita.
You can still use MDI. Just undock the docked views, (right click a tab, pick undock, or drag out the tab) then click on the system menu (top left corner of the caption bar) and make em MDI (click on disable floating) Save the project or save as a template and it will keep the MDI setting for the open views. Thanks. But it is only Ctrl + Shift and navigating with the left/right arrows. If you include the Tab it flips the Windows 10 screen :-)

You can attach a shortcut to this function! "next registercard" Bassman.
