Demo Versions of Mixbus and 32C now Avaialble
Harrison has published a demo of their two software packages - Mixbus and Mixbus32C - for your evaluation. The demo is fully functional: you can save sessions, use third-party plugins, and use external controllers. The demo will occasionally generate a low-level noise which prevents you from publishing the resulting mix, but otherwise it allows you to fully evaluate Mixbus. Mixbus is a full-featured Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with "True Analog Mixing": a combination of Harrison's world-renowned sound and features in an affordable, knob-per-function interface. Mixbus provides unlimited audio and MIDI tracks with extensive features for recording, arranging, editing, mixing and mastering your audio. Mixbus runs on nearly any Mac or Windows desktop computer, and it uses your existing sound I/O device. Mixbus32C has all the features of Mixbus, with the addition of the Harrison 32Series equalizer and 4 additional stereo buses available from each mixer strip. Both demo packages include a free copy of the SetBfree tonewheel organ instrument, plus evaluation copies of 12 highly-specialized Harrison plugins for the tasks of recording, mixing and mastering. You can learn more and download the free demos at Harrison's Mixbus and Mixbus32C product pages:

sounds like buyer's regret. If not, what would the demo have influenced? Bought it sooner?

Yeah, I found the stability with my favorite plugins to be, well - not stable. I upgraded to 32C in hopes of it being better but still had problems. It feels like it's going in the right direction, but it's just not in the big leagues yet. That said, for my current project I plan to mix down to stems and then try mixing the stems in Mixbus just to see if it really does impart some magic in the process. A demo would have given me enough of a taste to know I'm not missing anything... I tried a demo of Studio One and realized quickly I didn't want it. I find I'm doing most of my work in Ableton Live these days, and man can that do some crazy cool routing. I still use Sonar for comping, but once I have comp takes I'm bringing them back into Ableton as it just fits my workflow better. So between Ableton, Sonar, and Mixbus I want no more daws. :) PS: Never did swallow their excuses for not giving demos, and now that they have a demo it really casts a shadow on their approach.

All in all, the Harrison Mixbus team seems like great bunch of techies but they have a lot to learn about being a DAW manufactuer and being more customer responsive. Cases in point: 1. I've proven to them that EZKeys 64bit will crash both Mixbus 3 and 32C 64bit. But, EZKeys 32bit will not crash either Mixbus 32bit. Ben simply refuses to do anything about it since he maintains that "many" VSTis work in Mixbus and they don't have the resoiurces to chanse down every "errant" plugin. 2. If you use a UAD preset and then tweak it, save the project and then reopen the project all settings are gone for that plug. Just open any UAD plug and tweak (without using a preset to start) and save reopoen has all your setings. Another user reported the same problem with Plugin Alliance plugs. 3. They alleviated some pain by introducing 32C with 12 buses, but they can't seem to get AUX buses/tracks to have latency compensation. 4. Their scheme on how you use stereo plugs on a mono track or mono plugs on a stereo track is winky at best. And yes, I've raised these issues not only on their forum but with support directly (which I think is just a gateway to Ben ). I agree they are on the right track, and of course some of their development efforts are bound by the Ardour team so I do cut them some (only a smidgen) slack for that.

add me to that thought. wouldn't have purchased it if there was a demo smallstonefan I found the stability with my favorite plugins to be, well - not stable.
yeah, a major draw back. if ran into problems with 3rd party plugins within a few minutes of using it, these same plugins, and frankly all my plugins work fine without issue in my main daw studio one, same with reaper, and before i stopped using sonar i didn't have any issues there either. but with mixbus trouble straight out of the gate and still now as i check every update if vst/vsti plugin support has been improved, but no. smallstonefan PS: Never did swallow their excuses for not giving demos, and now that they have a demo it really casts a shadow on their approach.
no, the reported 'excuse' was pretty lame, i think the reason for not having a demo was pretty self evident it's ok for just mixing/mastering/finalizing using stems etc, as long as you don't go to far with 3rd party plugs, and it does have a 'sound', but just to buggy/flakey otherwise, and the cpu use, doesn't take much to peg the dsp meter into the red and meet the 'rice bubble triplets', snap crackle and pop, even with a beefy system, i7 4790(or something) 32gb ram yada yada, no such issues with my other daws. i find their excuse for that is a bit on the nose as well, having compressor eq etc on every track, can do the same with other daws without issue so . . .

I've yet to hit the "peg the dsp meter into the red and meet the 'rice bubble triplets', snap crackle and pop" issue you describe. For now, I stay away from presets in UAD plugs but I do hope they get that fixed (and PA plugs too) soon.' VSTi issues are generally less of a concern for me because I expect to mostly just import stems/tracks to mix/master with.

good for you as you would be aware from the mb forums there are a lot of others who have, being a member of those forums you would no doubt have seen the threads, and of course if you don't use much 3rd party plugs and just mix stems, of course you wont see it. but if you do use 3rd party plugs and try to use mb as you would any other daw, ie not just mixing stems etc, well that's another story then ain't it?
