What am I missing?
That it's
highly configurable? Also if you're using the inline PRV (which in many cases I prefer), you have all kinds of mouse wheel zoom options (look under Fast Zoom).
I thought your problem was difficulty hitting hot spots when the notes were small enough to make positional selection difficult. Midi Microscope solves that problem because presumably, you know what the pitch is or you wouldn't want to be seeing it bigger so you can do something to it. I have Midi Microscope on a keyboard binding so if I have a really dense bunch of notes, I can magnify a note quickly, do what I need to do, then go back to normal. I also set the magnifier size to 150, which I find better than the default.
Don't forget that in track view, you can switch between two preset zoom levels with the mouse buttons. You can also use screensets to jump between zoom levels in the PRV. For example you could set up a screenset for a huge zoom in the PRV, lock it, set up another one with an overview, lock it, and switch back and forth as needed.
If I can't do something in SONAR it's often I don't know how to do it, not because it can't be done. This is what causes me to search on the documentation to see if I'm missing some feature. But I'm also willing to be flexible, like using the PRV in the multidock for what it does best, and the inline track view PRV for what it does best. "Chacun son gout," and all that.
