It'll be strange for us long-timers, seeing a Mac sub-forum for Sonar... but it shouldn't be long now!

You're not alone. As long time died in the wool PC guy, my Windows 10 studio machine is the only Windows box left in the house and Sonar is the only reason for that. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my Win10 box and have no intentions of changing it anytime soon. But I've been threatening to rebuild my office desktop into something that could serve double duty as an upstairs writing/tinkering with softsynths sort of machine for ages now. Once I saw the Mac announcement, the deal was done. No more office desktop for me. I bought a henge dock for my MBP and I'm waiting patiently for the first Sonar beta release. I realize it'll be a LONG time before I can actually use my office for my intended musical purpose, i.e. tinkering with 3rd party soft synth programing and developing song ideas before taking them downstairs for recording on the big box. But that's ok. It's been this long, it'll get here when it gets here.

cheers Kenny, Johan, Jon Never used a Mac/Apple computer once and not wanting to lay down the big bucks really, but has to be a major performance improvement. Not a technical expert but from what I've read Windows and Apple machines are simular in terms of hardware, just the Mac software (how the programm handles audio) is way better. And recently Universal Audio have an additonal box with processors that combined with their plugins then gives users an incredible power on their machines. One solid Sonar Mac version is what I hope/pray for and hope it does well for Cakewalk and their passionate awesome staff.

I don't see a problem with Mac and PC people coexisting. As long as each has their own forum there should be no problem. One issue I have thought of is there will be no long time users to help Mac users with any problems they encounter. It may be an adventure for some and a huge headache for others.

I'm a long time Windows operator, but I did repairs and support for both platforms years ago...
As I was gifted a couple of recent mac pro's in a row, I've had the opportunity to use both... I find I never use OSX and simply boot directly into Windows...
I think the biggest benefit is that they are good dual-processor machines with a lot of RAM... Finding dual processor machines is possible in the Windows world, but seemingly not as commonly found.
It will be interesting running Sonar on OSX, but only time will tell us if there is any actual benefit...

I would hope the interface and operation of Sonar itself would be consistent, or as consistent as possible, between PC and Mac. Assuming that to be the case, the most likely issues I can think of are to do with the very different directory structures, file-systems and naming conventions associated with them, in the sense of "what goes where" and OS X's Audio and MIDI studio configurator. Hopefully most issues to do with the OS will boil down to "install any necessary drivers, enable them in Sonar, that's it, you're done". Most of the PC issues around dpc latency, wi-fi clobbering audio latency, one driver conflicting with another etc. don't seem to happen in OS X. It would be great if Sonar for Mac supported AU plugins as well as VST as well. That way people with lots of existing plugins won't have to start tracking down VST versions, and if Sonar for Mac takes off may help avoid lots of "where are my 1,243 existing plugins, why doesn't it see them" threads. Personally I really hope Sonar does take off on the Mac. Having used Apple kit for non-DAW purposes for quite a while, my one and only PC (see sig), decided to start acting up badly and randomly about the time the announcement about Sonar was made. I already have Logic on an i7 MacBook Pro because of some stuff I was doing with commited Logic users, and having tried Win10 I really don't like it, so I decided not to update Sonar this year and wait and see what happens..................

Dumb question.. why is it called "Alpha" version? Is it because there are bugs expected?

Alpha is the very first version, so it's early in the process. Even though Mac hardware is far more consistent than Windows machines, there is still much to be learned by getting software out into the hands of as many people as possible to see what kind of issues they encounter...or preferably, don't encounter . This data then gets used to create a Beta version, which presumably will be more polished.
