Reason has Ableton Link now. Could Sonar add this very useful feature?

Ableton has made Ableton Link open source, free on GitHub.  It's not just about synching  iOS apps with Live anymore.  It's now also Reason, Serato DJ and Max.  No doubt many more DAWS and controllers will follow.

If you could add this wonderful feature, it would make it possible for the 100+ iPad/iOS apps that already have Ableton Link to be able to play in synch wirelessly with Sonar.   And if you have another DAW playing on another computer...

Those of you who make music on your iPads know how amazing this feature is.

Pretty please...

Nice but probably unlikely. Sonar is more of a studio animal, whereas Ableton Live and Reason were more geared towards live performance (I use Reason on a Mac Book Pro whenever I use a sequencer in a live performance setting, whereas Sonar lives in a PC in my studio).

Thanks Keith.

I think that Logic, Cubase, Studio One, etc, and the rest will eventually offer Link.  It's a no-brainer because there is a very serious community of iOS musicians (check out the Audiobus  Forum) for whom this is a huge benefit.  I don't imagine it involves much work to add a feature that comes from free code.

But Sonar can do it before the others because it updates more frequently.  If Cakewalk does that, it will be noticed by all the iOS musicians who don't use Sonar (yet). Good marketing.

Cakewalk obviously cares about the iOS community because they put up Z3TA+ there.

Elson, it's true that Ableton Link is fun for playing live, but for iOS musicians who assemble their music in DAWs like Auria Pro and Cubasis, Link is an essential part of the workflow.  And many, like myself, work on their computers as well as their iPads, using Studiomux and iConnectivity products

It's not a question of whether Cakewalk is like Reason but whether it wants to build a bridge to iOS musicians.

Bristol, I do know that, but what does that have to do with iPads and iPhones?  They are made by Apple, but Garageband and Logic Pro do not have Ableton Link technology yet.

Unlike Windows, which doesn't draw a distinction between its mobile and desktop OS, Apple still does. iOS and OS X remain different animals. It's technically possible to hack an iPad Pro to run OS X; why Apple doesn't do this so it can compete with the Surface Pro mystifies me.

Abelton has a SDK for this now.

What some of you are missing is Link is also for desktops, laptops instead of just phones and tablets.  It's now like Call of Duty LAN parties.  BTW everyone has to be on the same network for it to work.

Link connects on either a LAN or an ad hoc WLAN network.

Interesting info here.  https://ableton.github.io/link/

Link can could be used to sync up multiple computers running Ableton Live Sonar. Imagine you are in a band, and your drummer is running percussion loops on his laptop, while the keyboard player triggers sequences and loops. Get on the same Wi-Fi network, enable Link and you are all set up and synced. No more cables, connections or anything else that eats up valuable time at the rehearsal studio.

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

Adding my humble request here as well. Just picked up Z3ta+ iOS to use with Reason. PLEASE, PLEASE add Link to Z3ta+ iOS. clock-sync over Wifi is so glitchy and unpredictable. Link just perfectly works. Thank you Cakewalk :)

FYI: There are no guarantees that any suggestions here will ever be seen or responded to by the developers ... they sometimes appear, but it's not like adding it to the list as noted below

And I have also heard that Sonar has a different dev team from the plugin devs (including Cakewalk instruments such as z3ta+).
