Cool. Was wondering when they would drop a new FP. I really wish it had more encoders tbh

Crap, I just bought the single channel one!  Oh well...I do like the single channel one, I would like to see all of my channels faders moving around by themselves.  I wonder if you can use 2 or 3 or 4?

It looks cool, but I like my regular old Faderport. When I step up, it's going to be for something with 24 faders. I'm keeping my eye out for a Tascam US-2400.

At 5 bills I'll be looking at the X-Touch compact first.  I like the FP a lot, but I don't like that can't be used as a generic MIDI controller for stand-alone apps.  I have it tweaked the way I want it, but having to use AZ Controller in Sonar to customize it is a PITA.  No offense to AZ - without his tool I would be stuck.  It's the same in Reaper.  A 3rd party driver is req'd there to get the most out of the FP as well.

Might have changed with the FP-8.  Maybe there is real MIDI out now ... time will tell.

I think the Sonar Love is "baked In" with the "and more"...
The standard Fader Port single channel works.  I would think the 8 channel version would work as well, but it may take some tweaking.

If they have implemented Mackie handshake (many producers "forget" it), it will work as MackieControl in Sonar. From pictures, since it does not has many encoders nor jog wheel, it is going to be worse then X-Touch...

azslow, Doesn't the Mackie Control Universal emulation handle this...This is found under the features...

Is the pro channel controlled through x touch or any of the control surfaces?

It depends how good they emulate it and either implemented controls disposition is suitable for Sonar mapping.
X-Touch has all MCU controls on hardware level, on the same positions.

Stock plug-ins can control ProCh using ACT Dynamic Mapping.

The only exception is MackieControl (and so all MCU like devices, including X-Touch), since it has no ACT Dynamic Mapping mode. Moded (by me) version can control ProCh EQ and Compressor (only).

AZ Controller can be configured to control ProCh modules explicitly (user defined mapping exists at the moment for BCR2000, Console 1, Launch Control, etc.). Last versions support arbitrary ProCh modules.

Direct controlling FX parameters in FX Chain ProChannel modules is not possible.

not so inspiring - what does it distinguish from the xtouch? fewer features?

no word on whether you could cascade 2 units like you always could with the BCFs ...

Mackie devices are "linked" on software level. So (any) emulators can also be linked as long as they look like Mackie devices. In worse case MackieControl Sonar plug-in need some "mod" (there are already mods for ProCh EQ/Comp, not completely MCU compatibe devices and 2 independent sets of MCU+(n) XT+C4).

Price is too high. Should be $300. Otherwise you can just get an X-Touch, and the big one at that.

interesting. so does this mean mixbus can only use one surface as I could not find a way to install/define a second MCU in the prefs???

I do not have Mixbus, but: http://manual.ardour.org/using-control-surfaces/devices-using-mackielogic-control-protocol/working-with-extenders/
So it looks like it can work, but on the level of DIY...

thanks for pointing me there. i'll give this a try

EDIT: it's actually much simpler than that in Mixbus. there is an option for multiple Mackie units, which I had missed ...
